Hi guys!
I'm having some trouble with my accommodation in terms of needing to change my arrival date from Friday 16th to Saturday 17th (I've emailed the accommodation team already) but am worried by the time they reply/change it a lot of parking availability will be gone.
I'm not sure if i should just go with the Friday which would be more difficult or wait for them to come back to me?

Thanks a bunch!!

Hey!
Don't worry at all - that shouldn't be an issue. Try ringing the accommodation team on 0118 200 5011 for a more instant response, but honestly you don't need to panic about that; it will be absolutely fine for you to come on the Saturday I have no doubt. The days/times are more of a guide to make sure there's not an overwhelming amount of people trying to move in at the same time, but as long as you let them know of the change there shouldn't be an issue in swapping days at all.

Hope this helps and you're feeling okay about the move! What halls are you moving into?
Let us know if you have any other questions/worries!

Hiya! Thanks for the quick response! I was thinking of calling them to change the date to Saturday but I think we’ve worked it out for Friday anyway.
Feeling excited but a tiny bit nervous, and going into Sherfield!
Thanks so much for your help

Hi @todobroni,
Really sorry for the delay in response from the accommodation teams (and ourselves) today - it’s a very busy week!! My best advice would be to keep ringing the phone line for quicker response as Skye mentioned before, unfortunately it really is our busiest time of year so waiting times can be quite long!
Don’t worry about having to change the date either, you’ll still be able to move in fine! It’s more of an admin issue really, just so our teams know roughly how many students are arriving per day and what to expect.
If they haven’t responded already, just try the phone lines again as I said - as long as you’ve notified them, you’ve done your part
Best of luck moving in - any questions don’t hesitate to ask!

Hi, I'm starting in 2023 (I deferred my offer), is there a specific 2023 accom thread? What's the process of applying for accommodation? When do I apply?

Hey @Wallflower011!

Great to hear you'll be joining us this year

There isn't an accommodation thread for 2023 yet, but we will be making one soon, so keep an eye on our threads!
I believe applications will open around early February time, but you should hear about this soon. You can see a general accommodation timeline here, although unfortunately this hasn't yet been updated to this year's - but I will investigate that for you! However, it may give you a good overview of what to expect anyway.

The general process will just involve you logging into the RISIS portal and selecting some preferences out of the accommodation available. I'd advise you having a good look through all the virtual tours on the website to see which you prefer and consider all the benefits of each one, depending on what you're looking for as an individual. Once you've applied, just wait for the accommodation team to get back to you with your offer - I think you can track this on the portal too!

You may want to check out our 2023 applicant thread too, as there's lots of good questions on there about various things regarding the university which may be helpful for you.
However, if you have any other questions re. accommodation or anything Reading related, just let us know!

Hope this helps!

Hi, I am looking for some advices about accommodation for 2023.
My son currently is in foundation course. As he struggles to make friends, he would likes to live at university accommodation when he is in year 1. When the online application will open to sign up for 2023?
Thank you very much.
Hello @WWq , thanks so much for your question! Applications are now open for full-time/part-time students to return to halls, they can apply on RISIS and find out more information about the process through the link that I have attached to this response.
If the link doesn`t work - https://www.reading.ac.uk/essentials/Accommodation/University-Accommodation/Return-to-Halls.
I hope this has helped! Please don`t hesitate to ask any other questions.

Hi Owain,
Thank you for your reply. We went in the link unfortunately there are only two type of accommodations to choose. They are all 52 weeks rental and quite expensive then we expect.
Do you know if there any other to choose?

Thank you very much.

@WWq brilliant to hear that you have managed to book accommodation! I stayed at st Georges' Hall first year and I absolutely loved it. Firstly , I found the location of the actual halls itself were great because it was very near the student gym ( I would approximately say a 3/4 min walk) and then it would take me about 10-15 minutes to walk to the centre of campus. St George's hall is also very close to a corner shop , domino`s and a greggs.
I loved sharing a kitchen with the rest of my flat cause it was a great chance to socialise when we were all cooking , some nights we also had a flat dinner night which I think is a great way to get to know your flatmates better! So I definitely recommend doing this with your flatmates!
I hope your son enjoys his time at st George`s! And please don`t hesitate if you want to ask any questions about the accommodation or anything else!

Hi everyone,
I will be joined the university of reading to study LLB law in september. I'm looking at the accomodation at the minute and I was wondering if I would have any reccomendations. I would like a small double bed in an ensuite room near the whitenights campus but I don't think I will be suited to living in a quiet living area. If anyone has any reccomendations, that would be amazing, thank you!!

Hi @gracie.221,
Congratulations - that's great news! If you'd like an ensuite with a double bed, you'll want to look at our premium ensuite rooms, available in Bridges, Childs, Mackinder or Stenton halls. Bridges is on the eastern side of campus closer to the agriculture, and the other three are in a similar area in/around our park group location closer to the west. Personally, if you're looking for proximity to our law school and a more lively social space, Bridges and Stenton are your better bets, but the other two are only a 2-5 minute further of a walk! If you wanted to check them out for yourself you can have a look on our website|: https://www.reading.ac.uk/ready-to-study/accommodation/room-types/en-suite-room
Please do let us know if you need any more help!

Hey @xo.najah,

Great to hear you'll be joining us at Reading soon - we're so excited to welcome you!

I think your best bet is to contact the accommodation team, as they will have the most up to date information on room situations and will be able to advise you further. You can contact them via email: [email protected] or phone: +44 (0) 118 200 5011 between 8:30am - 5pm Mon-Fri, and they will be more than happy to help and give you any available options.

Hope this helps! If you have any questions about starting uni or Reading in general before you join us, just let us know!

Good luck with the move!!

Hey guys,

I'm a current third-year pharmacy student who spent 2 years in Wantage Halls and really enjoyed it! I
It's picturesque, catered only accommodation which I found really convenient for myself! Every week you get money put onto your campus card which you can use at various cafes and restaurants around campus and within Wantage's own catering. For me, this was really convenient as sometimes I would stay later in the library studying etc so being able to grab dinner and stay later worked great for myself. It also meant that I didn't have to worry about waking up early to make lunches for the day etc.

In addition to the perks of catering at Wantage, we also had Wantage bar which was directly inside of Wantage. I really enjoyed this for chill nights with my friends. It allowed me to have a bit of a break from work with my friends without having to go too far. It also has Wantage's unique drink - a Sheepsdip!

I have so many fond memories of Wantage and met so many friends from there! If you would like to know more about Wantage Halls (or any of the other halls at Reading Uni) have a look here.

Hope this helps anyone currently thinking about what accommodation to chose at Reading Uni and if you have any questions feel free to let us know!😊
From,

Amina

Hi, just wanted to know you said you were at Wantage for 2 years, when you applied for the second year did you do it individually and get new flatmates or with friends? Thanks

Was wondering do second year students often choose to return to halls and get new brand new flatmates? Is it a useful and worthwhile thing to do?

Hey @vivek_b_80,

Great question.
A lot of returning students often choose to go back into halls for a number of reasons, and often get new flatmates, whether that's a whole new flat completely or going back with a friend and everyone else being new.
I think it's definitely worthwhile if you want to live with new people and have the ease of sorting out who, where, and all the bills and cleaning done for you. There's absolutely nothing wrong with returning to halls - sooo many people do it, in 2nd, 3rd and 4th years - even masters and PHD students! So please don't think it's an abnormal or bad thing to do at all. Hundreds of students return to halls year on year, and it's what they are there for.

I also think it is actually the best way to meet new people if you are wanting to make new friends and don't have any particular people you want to share a house with, and is definitely the most stress-free option (speaking from experience of living in halls and houses, and having friends who have been returning students to halls).

If you have any questions or concerns about returning to halls do let us know - we totally understand it's a big decision to make so appreciate there might be a lot of questions surrounding whether it's the best thing for you or not.

Hope this helps!
