best social accommodation at Sussex uni?

which accommodation has been the best socially since covid and new renovations of older more social accoms? I know park houses and east slope have a good rep but idk if that's the same now east slope has been renovated. the only option this year for park houses available on the application form is Norwich House, idk if that's the only park house available or its just been renamed? any opinions up to date on accom at Sussex socially would be helpful thanks.

Hey, thanks for your question.

Personally I'd say that even with the context of the pandemic, the most social places tend to be the ones that are the largest / have the most flatmates. Although East Slope is one of the more newer housing options, I believe you would have up to 9 flatmates here so this would probably be one of the most social options. With regards to Norwich House, to my knowledge this is the only park house now being offered as the other options will be undergoing renovation.

Other housing options such as Northfield which normally have 6 people or Brighthelm with 5, can also be great options as although you'd be living with fewer people you'd most likely get to know them all better. Brighthelm in particular is quite different to the other options as the living space here is built more like traditional housing rather than halls, which may make it easier to get to know one another with it feeling more like a conventional home.

Having said that though, it's definitely easy to socialise regardless of which accommodation you end up living in. Although having more flatmates helps, it's the effort you put into meeting new people that would be the biggest determining factor of your social experience rather than where you live. There's lots of opportunities at uni to meet people such as through your course, societies, events, getting a part time job etc which are all great ways to meet new people in addition to the accommodation you choose to live in. It's still a bit difficult to say what the landscape will look like exactly in the new year in terms of things being in person again, which of course does have an impact on socialising, but as it stands the plan currently is for teaching to be in person again and hopefully there'll be activities in person again too.

I hope that's helped to answer your queries but if you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch!
