Why is it that people always have the same view that Cardiothoracics and neurosurgery drs are the best/top/most intelligent ie. most prestigious surgical specialist?

Imo in broadest terms the most intelligent drs I meet are usually in renal. The nicest drs are usually geriatricians. The best paid private derm/ortho/plastics. The NHS would fall apart (well, more so) without the backbone of the resilient GPs and EM doctors. Lots of broad ways to look at specialties.

Depends what kind of doctor you want to be tbh.

Hey everyone, I'm applying to medicine for 2022 entry.

I was wondering what the best medical schools in the UK are (in terms of prestige, best courses, best research, linked to top hospitals with specialised facilities etc)? Which medical schools do top candidates apply to? I intend to try to move to the US in the future so will any medical schools help facilitate this? Also which medical schools do the top academic doctors (e.g professors of surgery) or top surgeons (private london surgeons) go to?

Thank you very much for any help!

Just curious
where did you end up for your uni?

Honestly, doesn't make much of a difference because its more about you as a person, the schools don't make you great, its you.

But if you are seriously considering moving to the US, go to Oxbridge, Edinburgh or one of the London schools. Most Americans really don't care unless you go to Oxford or Cambridge honestly. When I look at the keenest students, a lot of them have gone to Imperial for medicine or King's for some reason.

I can say this as someone who's been on both sides of the pond now.

Ok so quick question can I in theory become a cardiothoracic surgeon or neurosurgeon in london (or go to the US) regardless of what medical school I go to in the UK? As long as I do the right things and study extremely well at my chosen uni?

Yes, there are a few CT surgeons who work in the US. One of the biggest name surgeons in the US right now went to Oxford.
