Economics Internship

Researching into economic consultancies for a 2022 summer internship, what consultancies would anyone recommend? If you've also got first hand experience in any of these firms I'd appreciate your personal perspectives as well.

If you're looking at the more common type of economic consultancies (micro focused), then the usual candidates are firms like RBB Economics, NERA, Oxera, Frontier Economics, Europe Economics, Compass Lexicon, Brattle Group, Cornerstone, Analysis Group, London Economics, Cambridge Econometrics, CEPA, Vivid Economics, SQW, FTI Consulting, Fideres, Economic Consulting Associates, Oxford Policy Management, Charles River Associates, etc.

Beyond these micro-based consultancies, there are also microeconomic consulting arms of bigger consulting firms such as the big4 (PwC, KPMG, EY and Deloitte), PA Consulting, BDO, RSM, Grant Thornton are just launching their new economic consulting arm so are hiring at all experience levels. The MBB strategy consulting firms also hire some economists but these won't be relevant for an undergraduate summer internship.

No worries, happy to help. I interned at an economic consulting firm this past summer so if you wanna ask any specific questions, feel free. I didn't work in a Competition/Litigation/IO team and most of the consultancies I've listed specialise in these, just so you're aware that I might not be able to answer all your questions

For RBB Economics what is the intake/competition for the summer internship and interview questions would they ask

At RBB all I had to do was a case study and then a formal interview. From what I could tell, the intake wasn't big and they don't get a tonne of applicants, but those who do apply tend to be fairly strong candidates. There's a reason why almost every in their team studied at Oxbridge, LSE of UCL. In terms of interview questions, I'm not going to offer any, it would be unfair to the other candidates applying, your potential success in the application process should be based on your own merit, not mine.

I don't work for them, I don't know what their recruitment policy is. It's certainly worth a shot though, assuming you've already got a CV and written a cover letter before, then applying barely takes any time, what have you got to lose?
Hi! I stumbled across this page as I'm looking to pursue a career in Economic Consulting. I've just finished my first year at Durham but before that I worked for Fideres for nine months, and I have returned to intern with them this Summer too. I would love to chat with anyone interest in Economic Consulting; please feel free to PM me

Hi, I was looking to intern as a final year student at RBB, from the thread, it says they accept students mainly from LSE, Cambridge, etc. I'm a final year student studying Economics and Politics at Edinburgh and projected for a 2:1, but I dont have a lot of experience. Do you have any tips on applying?
