Can i do an electrical engineering degree with a college diploma

So next year i am going to this college to do a a course in electrical installation, im starting from level 1 and up to level 3 which i reckon would be 3 years

Now i saw that with these qualifications i can become an electrician, but instead of that, is it possible that maybe for example can an Electrical installation level 2 or 3 diploma help me get in university and do a course idk like electrical engineering?

This is the course: https://www.westking.ac.uk/course-detail/electrical-installation-level-1-diploma/16157/

Thats the leve 1 course, they also have a level 2 but they currently dont have a level 3 course, but it is available in other colleges so after level 2 ill move to a different college

You will need a level 3 course minimum to be considered and a university is unlikely to consider electrical installation by itself. You may need to do an A-level in maths and physics on top of the electrical installation. Alternatively, you can look at extended national diplomas or A-levels as well. Universities rarely accept students who don't have c's in G.C.S.E as well.

You may want to consider an HNC or an HND which will go well with a level 3 in electrical installation. Plenty of colleges offers HNC/HND as a higher education route and its well-respected qualification for jobs such as wind turbine technician.

Working as an electrician is very different to being an electrical engineer.

You can check university course websites to see if they accept this qualification, it would likely be listed on a section called entry requirements/pre-requisites…

I think to answer your question in the best way, the questions are what is the reason you want to do electrical engineering and why start with electrical installation?

That way we can understand your needs properly and advise you

I am currently doing a BTEC Level 3 in engineering (which is pretty much what you are doing) and I am planning of going to uni next year. You can go to uni but it limits your options on what unis you can go to. I found out which ones i can go to by looking at the courses on this website https://www.thecompleteuniversityguide.co.uk/

The difference between an electrical engineer and electrician is that an electrician installs, repairs and maintains electrical systems and equipment, while electrical engineers design and develop electrical systems and equipment.

So if the end goal is to be able to design and develop electrical systems and equipment you may not need to attend university to get there. You could become a fully qualified electrician and specialise in electrical systems designs by getting a Level 4 certificate. That way you will have the same rights and capacities as someone who has been to uni but will also be allowed to do installations as you will have technical qualifications.

This is a nearby centre to me that offers trainees to become fully qualified Learn Trade Skills. You may want to find a similar package to this https://learntradeskills.co.uk/product/gold-package/ to become fully qualified and then get your Level 4 certificate afterwards which usually lasts around a week.

So you may not need to go to university and you will have some hands on experience as an electrician which will be very handy
