In terms of the social aspects such as making friends and the facilities that are offered, do you think it would be better to apply to garden halls accommodation or one of the undergrad ones such as cross court house? Garden halls would be my top choice, but as its intercollegiate halls and a mix of undergraduate and postgraduate students I worry that it would be difficult to make friends. Do most undergraduate students tend to go in the undergraduate halls offered by the uni?

Hey, idk if you applied yet but i've heard good things about Romano court and that Arbour house is well known for parties etc

Hi all,

First of all, congratulations on your offer. I am a final-year Economics student at City University and lived in halls during my first year. I lived in Romano Court, formerly known as Liberty Court, and found my experience very pleasant. When I was there, the facilities were nice and clean, my room and kitchen were spacious, the accommodation was very sociable and I made plenty of friends. Being so central, it is convenient for days out, nights out and travelling to the university (it's only a 10-minute walk). I had friends in the other accommodations, which are priced higher, and they had good experiences too. As, for private accommodation, you should consider what is most important to you and make an informed decision based on your priorities.

If you have any more questions, I would be happy to answer them.

how would you compare city and a Russel group? would you say going to a Russel group instead of city actually brings much advantages and if so what are they? i noticed city is ranked basically the same as queen Mary ( Russel group) hence I'm confused as to what difference are there between the two?

Asking the uni rep may give you good info about City and other unis but just be careful about bias. Russel group is better recognised so if you had two students from a Russel group and City and both have no portfolio then the Russel Group student will be more likely to get hired.

The level of teaching is better on average, the content is harder - therefore harder to get a 1st on average. Higher level employers know this so they 'target' higher Russel Group unis to get better employees.

Specific courses may be better in City compared to lower ranked Russel Groups like queen mary, for example business since City has Bayes business school.

It really depends which course you want to do and which universities you're comparing but on average a Russel Group uni will be better than City.

Hi , i got admit from bayes , queen mary , manchester and kings for Msc finance and Accounting , can you help me out and rank which of this is the best for studies , employment , reputation and if being in London is beneficial for Bayes as i am inclined towards Bayes from all other options due to it’s finance degree reputation

I’m going to be a UG CS student in September but personally I would rank the university you have offers from in this order: Manchester, KCL, QMUL, City.

All of these unis are in major cities which you’ll have little problem finding employability most likely. Even if City is some how better than Manchester for that course I would still go to Manchester or Kings just for the name alone.

If you are looking to be in London then Bayes is the best as it’s reputation for business related courses outweighs the other universities based in London which you mentioned. It’s ranked highly across the world for their finance, I think 22nd globally and employability should not be a problem as you are based in London and they specialise in this area more than other unis. Manchester is also a great option outside London as there business school is also ranked well.
I have an offer for english. Is anyone else doing English or knows of any gcs I can join??

Hi malakiebind,

Sorry I cannot provide you with any comparisons because I haven't studied at QMUL. However, I can give you my view on it. The teaching quality at City is of a high standard and professors make sure to provide support to all students with office hours and tutorials. For me, however, university is what you make of it. University is not just about what happens in the classroom but outside the classroom too, and at City, you will never be short of opportunities. City has given me the opportunity to study abroad and even start my own business as a part of the CityVentures initiative. Ultimately, you create your own advantages by taking these opportunities. If you want any more advice then feel free to ask another question or drop me a private message on here.

Hi Amirkhan319900,

First of all, congratulations on all of your offers! Ultimately, the way you rank your offers is based on what is important to you. Yes, you are correct that Bayes has a great reputation for finance but also London is a great place to be for employment in the financial sector. City is located in the heart of London, and as a final year economics student myself, this is great because there plenty of jobs to apply for. As for studying, we have 3 main libraries, The Northampton Square Library, The Law Library and there is even a library in the Bayes building. There are plenty of study spaces and so many networks for support with your studies including office hours, tutorials, and even academic skills workshops that give you vital study tips to help you excel in your course. If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

Hi all,

I lived in Romano Court when I was in my first year and it was a good time. I met lots of people from gatherings at different flats and enjoyed the local amenities with them. My favourite place nearby was Bounce which was a restaurant/bar where you can also play ping pong. Had some great nights there.

Applied for Criminology, I do sociology, history and philosophy and I am predicted ABB. City is easy for me to commute to and they have one of the best rankings in the UK for criminology (1st in London). Other universities I’m interested in are Birmingham, Kingston and Westminster

I’m doing criminology too!?

Hi! Im not so sure who to ask but I need help with something. I have received both offers from Henley Business School (Reading) and Bayes (Cass) Business School (City, London), for International business/management. I am very confused as to which one I prefer and would rather go to. I was wondering if anyone has any insight or thoughts about which one I should consider as my top option, because as of right now I honestly have no clue. please let me know!
