Ooh amazing!! Well done on Cambridge omg! HSPS is a great degree. Just to fuel my own neurosis -- was it straight Social Anthropology at Edinburgh or did you go for joint? I've applied for arch and anth there and still haven't heard back :\

I applied to Durham and ucl even though I'd agree that social is the more intriguing side of Anthropology haha -- was such a pain for personal statement writing tho.

Anyhow if you're looking for my 2 cents on the Cambridge v StA -- St A is so lovely and might make for a more holistic uni experience than Cambridge. But it's so hard to turn oxbridge down haha. Also depends on what you want do after!

It must be so nice to be free of the stress finally!

thank you so much for all the nice words! Funnily enough I'm probably more stressed about it now than I was applying in some ways haha - I mainly just enjoyed going to the open days and I was lucky as my offers came in relatively quickly. But I never expected I'd have to pick as I didn't think I'd get into Cambridge - part of me was hoping I wouldn't so I didn't need to decide! At the same time however, I'm very fortunate that I can stress about which one to pick; I'm in a very privileged position and ultimately I know wherever I choose I'll make it work. Every uni in this thread is fantastic and really its just splitting hairs over which course/city you like the most.

If it helps I applied for straight social, and I had the advantage of applying in mid-october so my application was processed early; I just got lucky  I know StA usually takes forever though - as it happens my brother is applying for Archaeology there and he still hasn't heard back - hold tight

thanks for the advice - you're mirroring a lot of my thoughts haha. My main aim for the next three years is honestly just to be happy and enjoy my time as I'm only going to uni once. St. Andrews is indeed lovely and I'm sure I'd enjoy it, so the main thing I'm trying to work out now is whether its possible to have a good work-life balance at Cambridge and whether I could cope. I'm not really interested in prestige/job prospects (I know I should but its anthropology so I've kind of just accepted my fate 😛) but there are cool aspects about Cambridge that I need to weigh up.

Good luck with your offers!!

Cambridge does not do straight Anthropology.

Yeah I applied for HSPS - I believe you can specialise into SocAnth by itself in the 2nd Year though, and if I go I'll probably swap out a politics module for something fun like Egyptology

Picking can be so tough. If you're anything like me you end up comparing course, city, graduate outcomes, etc and it all gets in the way of your gut feeling! Whichever uni you pick you'll still have an excellent time and if you don't you can always reapply.

LOOL so accurate about job prospects. I've just accepted I'll be cool, interesting and unemployed. I'll just become an academic teehee.

Hey,

Thought I'd make a thread where we can all stress about anthropology applications for this yr.

Feel free to drop ur predicted grades and GCSEs and where you're applying.

Just got an offer for UCL Anthropology! Has anyone else heard back today? I know they tend to do it in batches

that's brilliant, UCL is a fantastic university! And their department is known for being one of the best as well. I still know quite a few people who are waiting on offers, though not for anthropology, mind
