Should I apply for foundation year at UAL or go directly into year one

I'm considering applying to UAL, Central Saint Martins and London College of fashion.Should I apply for the foundation course? Am I more likely to get in if its the foundation course? What do they expect from applicants who apply directly to Year One?One more thing, is it easier to get into Fashion Marketing or Fashion Media and Communication?
Apply to both. The foundation diploma application is an extra choice outside of ucas.

If you get offers from both then decide which you want to do.

Hi!

You can apply for both Undergraduate courses and a Foundation Diploma. A Foundation Diploma application will not be part of your UCAS applications. We do value a Foundation Diploma for the majority of our practice based courses as it gives experience of process, development and experimentation in your portfolio. I would encourage you to carefully check the entry requirements for each course, as depending on what you are currently studying, a Foundation Diploma may be required for some courses, while courses such as Fashion Marketing would not require a portfolio as part of the application process.

You may also find it useful to attend an open day (https://www.arts.ac.uk/open-days) to discuss the difference between courses and see which would be the best fit for you.

I hope this is helpful

You apply for the foundation diploma directly to UAL (or any other university or college offering the course) through their website.

Hi there,

Pre-degree and foundation courses help you develop the skills, experience and portfolio needed for further study.

You can find out more about our Foundation courses online - https://www.arts.ac.uk/study-at-ual/pre-degree-courses

What are pre-degree and foundation courses?
These preparatory courses help bridge the gap between secondary school and degree-level study. They give you the chance to:
- Expand your knowledge and skills
- Develop a strong portfolio of work
- Explore lots of subjects to help you decide what you'd like to specialise in.

Who are they designed for?
If you plan to study a practical undergraduate degree in areas such as fashion, art or design, we recommend completing a pre-degree or foundation course first.

We offer a range of options depending on your needs and background:
- Foundation Diploma in Art and Design (FAD) courses for UK and International students.
- Pre-degree courses for International students.

Where are they located?
All pre-degree courses will run from our dedicated UAL Pre-degree Studies site in Lime Grove, West London, from September 2024.

Hope this helps!
