French A-level for Architecture?

Strathclyde is the other uni that requires maths or physics for architecture.

Edit: sorry - just seen that artful_lounger replied about this.

No worries, thanks for your help!

The grades are I believe a tick box to make sure you meet the standard offer requirements; thereafter I think the portfolio is the overriding concern. UCL is also well known to be very "art-y"/conceptual as an architecture course, so that would make sense.

I think Strathclyde did require one or the other, although that may have changed. I don't think Cambridge formally requires it for all colleges, although individual colleges may require one or the other.

I see, good to know that! Thanks for your help.

Sorry, I am not yet allowed to use a private message. Bath is technical and UCL is artsy. Are you familiar with where Cambridge stands among the spectrum? It seems like it's quite a heavy theory course.

I'm not familiar with Cambridge's course as my son didn't apply. Take a look at the end-of-year showcases to see the work students produce:

There is also an old thread on Cambridge architecture that might be worth a read:

Thank you so much!
It’s worth reading the RIBA reviews for architecture and not just relying on “reputation”. https://www.architecture.com/education-cpd-and-careers/riba-validation/riba-validated-schools-uk
Cambridge had nothing commendable and concerns raised about the facilities and resources (other similarly small departments elsewhere have much more positive reviews).
UCL had a reasonable review but the Bartlett has been subject to a large independent review into racism, sexism and bullying at an institutional level. They say they’re working on this and some of the staff involved have been fired but the organisational and course structure that propagated the bullying is still in place.

I had no idea there was such a detailed review on each school. Thanks so much!

You’re welcome

AJ has some of the story around the Bartlett problems https://www.architectsjournal.co.uk/news/bartlett-investigation-damning-report-reveals-toxic-culture-spanning-decades (there’s been reports since about current staff and students leaking that nothing has improved)
