Private or uni student halls at Liverpool?

Hi everyone,
I'm looking at accommodation for Liverpool at the moment, I have a preferenece for apartment block style buildings rather the ones that are lots of houses in like an area (like the railyard). When picking on the uni website the cheapest seems to be Crown Place at £162 a week while Limelight is cheaper at £149 a week which also has a shared kitchen and ensuit. I don't often hear first years choosing private accommodation even though it seems to be cheaper. I am aware that it is often harder to socialise with private accommodation so I'm only looking at ones with a shared kitchen. What are people's thoughts on this?

Hi there!

So there is lots of accommodation options in Liverpool which is great. There are negatives and positives of all types of accommodation, as you have said there are some cheaper options than Universities own halls which can be a positive. However, do be aware that you will not be guaranteed to be with other 1st year students, or those only from the University of Liverpool. In addition, there is extra pastoral support available within the halls of residents of UoL, which you may not get from private providers.

Let me know if you have any other questions

Hi azura0,
It's entirely up to you which accommodation you choose to stay in. Many first year students do choose to stay in private accommodation for a number reasons, so you certainly wouldn't be alone if you did choose to opt for a room in a private accommodation. There's also usually plenty of opportunities to socialise, for example, at Student Roost we like to have a packed events calendar at our properties, many of which have fantastic communal spaces, plus 24/7 support and signposting. I'd say look into both but regardless, you will have plenty of opportunities to meet people throughout your time at university.

Hope this helps!

I’m a first year student living at Myrtle Court. I applied with Student Roost after I didn’t get any of my top 3 University of Liverpool accommodation choices. The price is definitely a positive, much cheaper than UoL as my rent is £125 a week and I get an en-suite and 3/4 bed. However I haven’t been so lucky with flatmates, as they don’t put you specifically with people in first year, and there are only 2 first years in my flat. From a friend making aspect I’d say definitely go with UoL accommodation, however from a money saving aspect, private is better.

It's also useful to add that there is lots of way to meet others at University such as through your course, societies, sports teams etc., so just because there isn't other 1st years in your flat then it shouldn't prevent you from making lots of friends

Hi Malachy,

I was wondering what Myrtle Court's like to stay in and the vibe? What kind of students usually go there? How good is the location?
Like what OP said, I'm leaning to Myrtle Court because of its price and it's also not far from Campus.

Hi there,

So in Myrtule court you share a kitchen, and bathroom with other students. It is also seen to be a very social hall, its location right by campus is really convenient and is also only 15 minute walk into the city centre which is great for shopping, days out and night out!

The price is also a great advantage.

Hi. My daughter has been allocated a room with student roost at either Apollo Court, Myrtle Court or The Railyard (don't know which yet). We have been told that she will be with other 1st years from Uni of Liverpool. Just wanted to check that this was other people's experience, when you had been allocated a room here rather than it being a choice.

My daughter's in the same position - she's waiting for an email from Student Roost now to see where she's been allocated.

We were told it could take up to another 10 days to hear. Hoping we hear soon as our daughter goes on holiday for a week on 31st!

What is your daughter studying?

We've now been allocated an en-suite room in Apollo Court. Have you had a reply from them yet?
Not yet - Apollo was my daughter's first choice so fingers crossed.
