Liverpool vs Bristol for history

I’ve had conditional offers for ABB from both Liverpool and Bristol to study history, and I like both courses. The only variables I’m looking for answers on are really whether the gap between Liverpool and Bristol is really tangible or just purely class based, and whether that should effect my choice. Any information on difference in teaching quality would also be appreciated. I liked both cities, however living in Bristol would be far harder for me in terms of finance which is a big factor. Thanks for any help

Read the title and was ready to come argue that Liverpool FC probably have a better history than Bristol City

Hope you find the response you're looking for though.

I've never been to Liverpool, but as a final year student doing History at Bristol I have to say that I absolutely love Bristol. It depends what you are looking for, if you are looking for good student life and having lots of fun then I heard Liverpool can be good for that too. Bristol is so much fun; but there are lots of private school students and rent is v high in some areas. Even so I really really enjoyed my time there, kinda changed my life. met some fantastic, down-to-earth people (choosing the right hall for you really helps!) and the History course at Bristol is also super interesting. But my opinion might be biased as I've never been to Liverpool... But can defo vouch for Bristol

I studied at Liverpool and had a friend at Bristol who I visited. Bristol is the better city by a country mile.

Bristol is dominated by ex-grammar school and ex-private school students - if you would feel uncomfortable with that, pick Liverpool.

Hi there,

Great to hear that you got offers from both Universities, well done

So something that I would recommend is looking at the module options between the two courses, I'm not familiar with either, but often Universities specialise in particular areas of history so there could be some modules that only one University offers. You mention finances, in those terms Liverpool is certainly the cheaper option in terms of rent, and general cost of living. I've loved Liverpool as a city, its got a great and varied nightlife, lots of cultural activities and you can get out to the countryside and beach very easily! That said, Bristol offers lots of those things too. Have you visited the offer holder days for either? I would really recommend doing so, since that you give you a first hand experience of both cities and Universities which will be great for you!

Let me know if you would like to know anything specific about Liverpool as a city and the University and I'll do my best to help out
