advice on how to revise critical essays

How can I revise critical essays effectively? Anyone got any advice?
Essays are driven by particular questions but behind that is the subject, which can be approached from multiple angles. The trick when revising is to ensure that you can handle whatever question is asked - revising for particular questions, especially ones already set for essays, is pretty pointless and runs the risk that you are flummoxed when a fresh question/angle is presented. So rise above the specific question and revise the subject is my advice.

if you're talking about gathering quotes from essays to use in your exam, try to find quotes that are specific but also broad for example you could look for quotes that look at the text through a feminist lens but the quote can be applied to a range of different questions. try and find quotes that are versatile
