Re-attending uni or re-attending college?

hi, recently dropped out of university because I hated it but I'm really open to going back this september because I'm able to commute instead of staying in accommodation. I will probably end up doing the degree that I initially wanted (English) but I found this really good one-year course at a college that I could afford and is more specific to what I want to do, which is something to do with fashion. I'm going to try and weigh up the pros and cons briefly here but if I decide to re-attend university, the cons are I still have the stress of student loans, it's going to be a little more expensive and I'm not sure if I even like English anymore but the pros to this are student life, societies where I can make friends, a maintenance loan to help me with my commuting fares and a chance to stay in accommodation again in my second and third years if I want. Re-attending college for a year would be cheaper, more enjoyable for me subject-wise and could enhance my CV but I just feel like I would really struggle to make friends? In college the age range is 16-18, and I turned 19 a few days ago. Am I too old to 'fit in' at college and socialise? This probably sounds like a silly rambling but I'm sort of stuck here... I really wish my first choice uni did a fashion degree - it would of made this much easier :frown:

don't worry, you'll definitely find people who you can socialise with who are your age - a friend of mine is also going back to college this year who is also 19. she recently went to go do a baseline test at her college and found at least 10 people who are her age and she said she found some people who were even older. its not like theres a 20 year age gap so you will 'fit' in. college is more diverse in terms of the people that go there so you'll defo be able to find people who you can socialise with

i personally think you should do the fashion course. you need to do something you love to do and if you're not 100% sure about english then don't do it at uni. you're going to be investing time, effort and money into a course you dont even like. why would you do that? save your student loan for when you go to uni to do something you actually like
Are there no other universities within commuting distance that offer fashion courses?

do a foundation art course at a university and take the fashion route in the course. the teachers will advise you to join their uni or help you sign up for others

thanks! you've been really helpful. I think I'm going to go for the fashion course at college. I'm pretty sure its going to be fine and your reply has reassured me a lot about the age thing.
