Foundation year?
Just wanted to ask does it consist of exams or just coursework such as essays.

This completely depends on the course. Your course information will tell you how you'll be assessed in foundation year and the requirements needed to progress onto the rest of the course. For example, I study Media and the foundation year offered to us comprised of coursework assessment which was just essays. I imagine for a STEM subject if a foundation year was offered, there'd be at least one exam. If your course page doesn't tell you how it's assessed, you can always get in contact with the university to find out.
