Studying towards GCSEs

I'm currently at Sunderland college studying test the city maths and English level 1 and I have plans to study at Newcastle college the following academic year in September for my GCSES maths, English and biology GCSES however I am currently unsure what I want to study towards for a career I need extra time to decide weather I want to become a plumber, electrician or biologist first before making a decision; then maybe after I get loads of qualifications after my GCSES then make a permanent decision of what I would like to become.

I currently live in a council flat in Sunderland which I could probably afford even if I decide to go to Newcastle University, Sunderland university is just dead, Sunderland city centre is dull and horrible compare to Newcastle.

I'm a Geordie that lives in Sunderland and i'm also autistic with great hopes for a good future.

Any help would be appreciated thank you.

I am not sure if you need biology GCSE, but if you do see:

The key things to note are:

Do lots of practice papers

Review your mistakes and learn from them

Revise frequently and often

Follow your spec and use revision guides

Keep your notes organised

Start early

Note: the fact you're a Georgie makes no difference to how well you score. Your grades and performance are not constrained by where you're from.

If you want to become a biologist, you would more or less need to study all the way up to PhD level. A lot of it would be memorising a lot of material. You would need a very good strategy or system of studying. It's not a subject where you can do everything at the last minute; if you do, you would struggle.

I wish you luck

Good luck on your maths exam. Hope the above study advice helped.

For plumbing and electrician, I think you should be able to get onto certain courses and apprenticeships with just a Level 1 in maths and English (although I would prefer if you had a Level 2).

To become a biologist, you definitely need a Level 2 in maths and English.

I would focus on getting these qualificatins first before you make any further plans.

Basically I decided to cancel the exam because of I didn't have adequate knowledge of mathematics in order to sit the exam I couldn't do maths without support from my teachers anyway; what should I do to improve my maths skills before September?

plumbing and leccy apprenticeships where I live are asking for 4s in maths and english. It might differ according to region and size of the employer's firm.
If you don't find it easy learning from youtube, you might want to see if you can get a maths tutor if you want to get it sorted for September. I know this can be reallly costly but maybe you can go on one of those gifting or exchange sites and offer something In Kind - like gardening or art of babysitting or whatever. If you go on Facebook you find more people of the age group who might be willing to help with some maths tuition like that - obvs be careful and safeguard yourself - but you never know. People can be kind and want to help!!

Without knowing your specific circumstances, I could only give you general advice.

Maths is one of those subjects where it's not enough to read about it in order to understand it. It's a skill based subject, where you would need to practice over and over in order to internalise the knowledge. In other words, do as many practice past papers for your course as you can. It's the same advice that people who study maths at master's level, PhDs, and even lecturers follow.

What is key in your practice is to look through the model answers, and then pinpoint where and why you made certain mistakes. Then you would need to learn from those mistakes.
You don't want to focus on everything as opposed to your weak areas e.g. if you got 90/100, and the 10 marks you missed are in one specific question, there's not much point in going over all the other questions as opposed to focusing on just the one you missed the marks on.
After identifying the topic/question you are weak on, redo the question until you get it right.
If you feel like you didn't have a clue on how to approach the question, look through the revision guide (or read through the material) for that specific topic and then do the practice questions (especially the harder ones) until you have a grasp of what you need to do to answer those questions. After this, go and do further practice papers to see what else you need to iron out.

If you keep making the same mistake again and again (say 3 times or more), note it down and see what's causing those problems e.g. is it a lack of self confidence? Are you rushing? Are you not giving yourself enough time? Find solutions to those problems, do more practice papers, and see if those same problems still come up.
Do note, whilst a good mindset alone won't get you to pass a test, it does account for a good portion of good performance (say 50-60%). The remaining 40-50% is mostly down to good practice/hard work and the right approach.

If you need tutorials, I would go on YouTube to look for how to videos on how to do certain maths problems.

Don't go to Sunderland Uni.
I'm going into yr11 and I'm going to apply for Durham 6form. I live close to Sunderland and believe me my grandma would never let me set foot near Sunderland College never mind Sunderland Uni (bearing in mind I play Netball at Sunderland so she kind of has to). Although Sunderland maybe arguably closer, most people I know have refused to go there or have switched uni in the beginning of their degrees. Newcastle has a good selection of unis just as Northumbria Uni, which have a much higher reputation than Sunderland, so I would recommend going to Newcastle personally. In terms of locally, my best recommendation would be either a Newcastle based Uni or Durham Uni, due to the student life and its reputation of being a Red-Brick Uni amongst the likes of Oxford and Cambridge. But those are my honest opinions. Good luck

I know the banter and I know the crack Sunderland university is a crap uni unless I want to become a paramedic then that's different I would prefer open university due to me wanting to get qualified in construction and engineering and then biology and chemistry by the time I finish my 5 years at Sunderland I would be really well qualified and integrated into Sunderland.

I actually live in Sunderland and I find it really boring place I want to move near the metro centre instead.
