Film studies A-level revision for mock exams

I'm revising for my film studies component 1 mock exam this week and I was wondering if someone could help me figure out a simpler definition for what an "ideological critical approach" is?

the easiest way to understand it is to look at it like 'the ideas a movie has and how it portrays them' whether it's obvious or more subtle. For example, in Trainspotting you can talk about the attitudes towards masculinity and how it is portrayed in the film. Or Sightseers how is femininity constructed and even the idea of nationalism in This Is England, how does the movie go about representing that idea? At least that's how I try to look at it.
