unversity in london

Hi Everyone,

I'm in the process of doing research on what schools in the UK I should apply to. I'm interrested in doing my masters in occupational therapy. My question is what school/s do you think is best especially for international students.

Ps I live in Trinidad and Tobago

Thank you

I'm also applying so can't tell you what it's like being there from personal experience but St George's looks amazing! They're a specialist medical & allied health school so all the resources are being put into that rather than spread across a range of courses and the facilities are really amazing. They do a fair amount of research so they're up-to-date on everything but not so much it feels like the focus rather than the teaching. There's a big international student community and a lot of flexibility in the courses (I'm applying for undergrad so don't know much about the masters but there seem to be a ton of options), and everyone I've met on open days etc seems lovely! There's an applicant thread for them on here which I think has some other people looking at/studying occupational therapy (I'm also an international student but I've been living in the UK for a couple years so am applying from here)

Hi @Tishtish23,

Hope you’re well, I’d love to offer some advice! I see you’re thinking about coming over to study in London, if you haven’t done so already, perhaps you could research universities outside of London maybe somewhere more less daunting? Even though it may sound exciting and impressive to study in a London university I would say that it could be more challenging and daunting than it needs to be, especially being an international student! It can be majorly overpriced to live and study in London. This is something I thought about when choosing which university to attend.

I study photography at Chester university and UCL in London was a lingering thought during my time thinking about where to go. Even though I gained an unconditional offer at UCL I still chose Chester to go as my first choice. The main reason was because of the cost of living and having the understanding that studying in London isn’t all how it’s made out to be. I love studying in Chester, it was the best decision I’ve ever made! I feel so relaxed and happy living and studying here and I’m glad I can still get to and from university, to the shops and to work in such a close proximity of each other which saves me so much time and money especially when focusing on my studies. London can be a very exciting thought and they do have some great universities but, I wouldn’t rule out other cities in the UK. Maybe you could have a look at the rankings of UK universities which considers not only the pros/cons of your chosen degree but, the pros/cons of student life, expenses, commuting to and from campuses and night life etc.

Hope this helps you, wishing you all the best,
Ellie
