OCR A-Level Sociology Paper 1 - 22 May 2023

i have missed lots of school the past year due to personal and health issues which has obviously impacted my education. i'm confident in theories like marxism, functionalism etc.. and sociological concepts however i lack knowledge of studies and sociologists. what do you think the grade would be for an essay that lacks these aspects?

i would say at least C/D. try tonight to learn 3 studies for different areas. you can even reuse studies

in disability you can talk about both social model and medical model. you can quote sociologist shakespeare who mentions those who are disabled see themselves as inferior and as victims. Put in a statistic. talk about labelling theory and interactionism, changes: new representation in media, discrimination act of 1995. same: labels still apparent, buildings not inclusive i.e ramps etc.

this is for youth btw! i’m not the person you asked but these studies can be applied to almost any Q if you really waffle. Cohen Status Frustration, Cohen Skinheads study, Mods n Rockers, Willis Learning to Labour, Sewell black masculinity in schools, cicourel policing study, clobbers n ravers study by thornton, Hippies, ragga girls, new wave girls

cohen: mods and rockers study (socialisation/identity & media)
ann oakley (can use her on every paper)
willis: the lads study (can use this for socialisation/identity, education and inequalities)
sewell: young black boy lack discipline study (socialisation/identity, education and inequalities)
mac an ghail: crisis of masculinity ( socialisation/identity, education and inequality, i also think globalisation but don’t quote me on that)
Bourdieu: social and cultural capital ( socialisation/identity, education and inequalities)
these are the one i can think on top of my head

a lot of the questions that have come up have been about how the identities have changed so i’m guessing they might give us a question on how identities are learnt

im actually scared
