Hi!

I think this depends on how you would prefer to take notes. If you prefer to handwrite notes on paper, a laptop will be perfect as you will be able to use it for any programs you may need such as R as well as any written work etc. However, lots of people prefer to take digital notes and for maths, a tablet is much easier for this (typing maths can be tricky!). If you go down the tablet route you will be able to use university computers if you need to use programs that aren’t compatible (I haven’t tried using R etc on a tablet so I’m not sure how accessible they are - there may be web versions that work well for what will be required).

In lectures, I would say it is a 50/50 split between people taking notes on paper and those using tablets so it is completely down to personal preference.

Personally, I have a 2in1 laptop (laptop that can flip into a tablet) which helps me to take digital notes as well as use programs such as R and complete any written assignments.

Hope this helps!
