Neuroscience degree?

I’m thinking of doing a neuroscience degree, but from what I’ve seen there aren’t many jobs. Has anyone who’s done or is doing a neuroscience degree let me know if it’s worth doing?

Hi, Neuroscience grad here... there are lots of opportunities in research and you can also go down the teaching route. You can also pick up skills like skills in coding and you then have more choice in terms of jobs. My main issue with research-based degrees is that research itself is not a stable job and you are constantly seeking grants to progress or your supervisor has to fund you being in the lab. IMO if you are going to a university which heavily focuses on research like KCL you will probably be fine in finding a job.

Hi there, I am going into year 13 soon and wondering if i should do a neuroscience degree. From looking at student satisfaction statistics, Neuroscience is surprisingly low at around 60% (compared to other degrees e.g. biomedical science at 84%). What are your experiences with a neuroscience degree and why do you think this is? Would you recommend someone interested in neuroscience do biomed then specialise in neuro later?

Hopefully these are just bad statistics
Thank you

Hiya,

I quite enjoyed my neuroscience degree- I studied at King's who had lots to offer to students in terms of research and getting involved. We had a common first year where all the bioscience students study together then you move into your individual subjects- this gives you an opportunity to decide whether you want to stick to neuroscience or study biochem/biomed/anatomy/ pharmacology etc. I know there is also a push for neuro/ data now as computer science modules are options for study in second year.

I think exploring what you want to do after studying is always helpful in deciding which of the two to pick-
