I'm guessing it's essentially a lithium ion battery, so you should probably take it in carry-on to avoid any problems (Googling it, seems someone was pulled aside because the scanner twigged it was a battery operated device) but they let her through after little investigation. Wouldn't recommend whipping it out on the plane though, at the very least until the seatbelt sign is off (joke stolen from MumsNet).
