about accommodation, Any advice between Glen Eyre and Wessex Lane. can we wait ?
Do offer day include seeing the accommodations ?

Can we only choose one accomodation or do we apply for several? I think I'm leaning towards Glen Eyre
Do we have to email our gp for vaccination records if we are unsure of what we have had?

Hello,

Final year Bm5 student at southampton here 👋
I lived in Glen eyre uni accommodation in first year, because the U6H stop was quite close, so it meant that the commute to the hospital was 30 minutes (1hr return). However most medics live in uni accommodations in year 1, so the bus gets busy , I used to aim for the early bus and grab breakfast at the hospital 😅
There’s also a of students who opt for Wessex Lane because of proximity to campus and ease of getting the bus to the hospital, so it’s really fine in either.

Accommodation applications for 2024-2025 aren’t open yet but usually you can apply for accommodation through this link https://www.southampton.ac.uk/student-life/accommodation/apply . You can rank your top choices and most students get one of their top 3.

Hope this is helpful! Don’t hesitate if you have any other questions

Hello,

I had requested a vaccination record from my GP , and anything that is missing you can usually sort out during your occupational health appointment so no worries about that!

Congratulations on your offer !

Hello,

Final year Bm5 student at southampton here 👋

Congratulations on your offer!

So it’s usually best to rank several options, in case you don’t get your first choice they can offer you another spot!

I stayed in Glen in my first year and it was really nice! Easy to commute to the hospital and campus, very active social life which can be said about all of the halls!

Don’t hesitate if you have any other questions

Hi Cynthia...thank you so much. Pls help with couple of questions wrt to international students : (1) do international students face challenge in getting preferred location choices for clinical placement locations in Y3/4/5 ? Do they usually get only in rural/remote areas ? (2) and similarly during FY1 location allocation ? (3) can pls share how that allocation system work in general and the assistance provided by uni esp for FY1/2 placements ?

Hello happy to help!
I am actually an international student myself.
So international students are treated the same way as home students, we all rank the same choices and most students get their 1st or 2nd choice. There aren’t really any remote or rural areas for the clinical placement . You can choose to go to jersey or isle of wight but I wouldn’t describe them as remote or rural and usually students pick those areas because they get really good teaching and really good support from staff. Again for foundation job applications you are ranked the same way home students are so given the random allocation this year, its been really a you and your luck situation. The university is not involved in the allocation system of foundation programs so we don’t get assistance.

Hope this is helpful

Hello,
Do you know how many weeks the BM5 course is? I'm looking at accommodation options before the applications open, but I'm not sure whether I need to apply for the 38 or 41 week contract to cover the length of the course? Thank you.

I believe that this is against the rules. Also, you seem to have set this up for a number of universities, so you are either a bot or trying to leverage a business.
to a fellow parent @BellaGoose
your post above is really appreciated
( had push back recently when I made the same point on another thread
and can’t patrol all of them, so support most welcome 🤗)
GANFYD and CircusQueen also are so good at this

You are very welcome. It really gets my goat to have people preying off the students on this site. Have a fab weekend!

Hello

The first year on the BM5 is 38 weeks, however most contracts with the university accommodation are 41 weeks, it makes for an easier move without the stress of finals in my opinion.

Anyone wanting to join an offerholder chat, Southampton have sent a private link to a UniBuddy group chat on their offer email. That secure chat also has a link to the Whatsapp group chat as well. From there you can ask to be added to the MedSoc one. Hope this helps, I had been debating clicking on ANY links for a while, but considering the Unibuddy was sent by Southampton, it seems legit and the Whatsapp group has so far been a nice way to chat to people. @BellaGoose and @MedMama I completely agree with you and think it is a risk following a link sent by something public but as this is private, I've found this to be quite secure
