So you're finally off to university next month!

There's a lot to consider when finding the right uni for you, so how did you decide which one to go to?

Is it for the course, the city or did you get lucky during Clearing?

Let us know
Hi,

I just want to jump on this thread to say how valuable I think going to open days are and visiting the area your university is in. I would also recommend talking to staff on your desired course on the day and travelling using the public transport so you know what that is like in the area.

I chose my university because it was close to home, but I still attended open days and applicant days to make sure I knew it was the University for me. Now I am going into my final year and hoping to pursue postgraduate studies here too!

The university you choose to study is for YOU not your parents or family or friends.

Kids are still ignorant about rankings then, probably pretty narcissistic and egotistical. I went for the course content, very few universities provide topics on biological anthropology.

Mine was a doubly happy coincidence: it was local ish and I was a carer at the time so couldn't go too far, and it had a really strong phil programme with a 3rd year choice to specialise in Indian philosophy

At least they chose to be honest about it.

Indeed, I can never fault honesty.
I'm not surprised by the poll results , saw it coming.

To be fair I probably would have done the same thing if I had had the grades for it. I'm not in Y13 anymore though. I didn't care about rankings when applying (I can't even remember what I cared about and I think struggled to come with 5 universith choices).

I firmed/insured based on how much I liked the uni and class structure (well that was half-true anyway), rankings didn't matter to me and I didn't like the course structure of the RG University (too much focus on history and literature, essentially looked like doing a history degree in a foreign language).

the only important characteristics are how the place is and how high it is on the league tables.
