I applied to the MPhil with references on 7 November but my application didn't move to "under department consideration" until 20 December. Should I consider this a bad sign?

Last week, an applicant from POLIS sent an email to the department and asked about when our status will be updated. The course administrator clearly said that all applicants’ status will be updated in February.

Feel free to send an email to the Department and ask for latest updates. It will not definitely affect the outcome of your application.

Hmmm so no one has heard of anyone get an interview yet!?

No, but that probably doesn't mean a lot. Last year there were about 250 applicants and 25 offers. It'd be easy for everyone posting on TSR to be in the rejection pile.
