One Day Travelcard saved.

As many of you may have been aware, TfL (Transport for London) had proposed abolishing the very popular One Day Travelcard, where this combined return travel from outside the London zones eg, Hatfield, on National Rail trains to unlimited travel on overground, tube and buses within the TfL zone 6 (with a few exceptions).

Following a public outcry, agreements have now been reached on funding distribution between TfL and the TOC's ( train operating companies).

Needless to say this comes with a caveat of a price increase, but if used to its maximum still gives good value for money.

UH students if not already aware, may be interested in the range of railcards on offer such as the Young Persons 16-25 one which Santander will issue for free to students for four years ( provided you bank with them of course !).

This gives one third reduction on standard and off peak tickets including Travelcards, and one third off Oyster off peak pay as you go on tube, DLR, London Overground, TfL Rail ( note a minimum £12 fare applies from 04.30-09.59 Mon-Fri, excluding public holidays or July and August).

The best option if buying is to do so for three years on line as this works cheaper than one year over the counter.
There is also a 26-30 Railcard with similar benefits.

Regarding combined train and bus fare outside the TfL zone Plusbus is also a good option, where for a small add-on fare when purchasing a rail ticket this combines local bus travel at your destination.

The government sponsored £2 any single bus journey fare in England outside London has been extended again to the end of 2024.
Most of the operators in Hertfordshire that UH students use such as UNO and Arriva (eg 301/2, 724), are participants with a few of the smaller operators such as Sullivans ( route 84 St Albans-Potters Bar) not. Dean Sullivan gives his reasons why on his company website.
