My brother has been arrested for assaulting someone in town, what punishment could he get?
Depends on the nature / motives of the assault, and the impact on the victim.
Could get a caution (will be dealt with very quickly), but if convicted, could be anything from a fine / community service up to 5 years in prison.

He was drunk and high and someone said something to him and he basically battered him, he's always had a horrible temper
