what is the oxidation state of cr in Na2CrO4
so since the overall oxidation state is 0.
2(+1) + X + -8
2 + X -8
2 - 8 = -6
so isnt the answer -6? but the ms says its +6, how do you get +6

You're close, but remember it has to total 0.
So 2-8+X = 0
X=8-2
X=+6
