Super-curricular activities

Hello! I am studying in an Indian board and don't have the option to do an EPQ. Can you suggest any other super-curricular or co-curricular that would enhance my application for Maths and Philosophy at an Undergraduate level?

Hi! I am don't study maths, so can't advise lots there but I am doing A-Level philosophy so can give a few tips with that! Some things you can do:

Essay competitions - lots of international ones such as John Locke and ones organised by different universities like Oxford and Cambridge

Reading - reading philosophy books (and likely maths ones too) can be talked about on a personal statement and can show that you are really interested in studying the course and you are willing to read about it in your free time. Undergraduate degrees often have lots of reading set so showing you can handle slightly more challenging texts, like books by philosophers, will also be beneficial in that way.

Summer schools - I don't fully know your situation/if they are available to international students but Sutton Trust offers free summer schools at top UK/US universities so these might be worth applying for if you are eligible, especially as some of them come with reduced grade offers if you then apply for an undergraduate course at that university.

Clubs - joining related clubs at your school or starting them if they don't already exist can be a great way to show interest in a subject!

I hope this helps and feel free to reach out if you have any more questions 🙂

Depending on where youre thinking of applying to cambridge has some suggestions / decent overview

For oxbridge maths (only), theyre fairly clear that the supercurriculum/personal statement has little impact on the selection process (extracurriculum stuff has no impact). The key things are the interview and the entrance tests. In practice, doing some supercurriculum stuff (competitions, background reading, ....) will help with the interviews/entrance exams, but its less about gathering stuff to put on your personal statement and more about getting stuck into the subject.
