The Student Room Group

Currently inA level with C,C&U (sociology psychology and biology)

So Its my first time studying in England like straight away from my homeland to England I chose a level. I thought it would be similar to senior high school in my country but......no I'm very wrong. I was predicted a U in biology twice ik sounds very bad I read somewhere that why would you even study a level if your that d*mb. And now I just don't know what to do my teachers are looking at me like I was a bad student that doesn't try hard to even study. The education system here is very different to ours and I don't have any clue still about anything is should ever know since why would I ask if I don't know at the first place 🥲. They keep on telling me to ask for help but I'm never used to do asking first of all I'm shy second I'm not used to it, and it feels like they'll look down to me more. Ik I should put my pride down but I don't really genuinely know what to ask.
It just hurts that I have to undergo through this right away plus I have high pressure from my family for me to do good as I am used to be an honor student from my homeland (which makes it sound worst) I don't know what to do I'm just so down about to give up in life cause I don't think any possibilities here will work on me and anyone doesn't seem to understand my situation. Even my sociology and psychology doesn't seem to end well for me too.

Yep, it can make you extremely humble. It's always the wrong approach if you assume everything would be similar; assume you know nothing and learn the ropes as if you're a newbie.

The education system here is very different to ours and I don't have any clue still about anything is should ever know since why would I ask if I don't know at the first place
That would be the first place I would start. I would look through the specification, understand how things are taught, what is needed in the assignments and exams, then do everything I can to work towards this.

They keep on telling me to ask for help but I'm never used to do asking first of all I'm shy second I'm not used to it, and it feels like they'll look down to me more.
Yeah, there's no room for pride when it comes to getting results and progressing in my experience.

Ik I should put my pride down but I don't really genuinely know what to ask.
You don't know what you don't know (not my saying by the way). The only real way of identifying this is if you test yourself and see wherre all the gaps are. My personal preference would be to do past paper questions to see where all of my gaps are.

I have high pressure from my family for me to do good as I am used to be an honor student from my homeland (which makes it sound worst)
I recommend to take your family out of the equation. Your education is for you and you alone; your family don't dictate how things will turn out for you. Just focus on studying for yourself.

After looking through the specifications for your subjects and doing past papers to identify where your weaknesses are, I would recommend googling for tips on how to get high marks. For example, I have found the following that might help:

Psychology:

The above are only from the first page of Google search results, so there are likely more videos to look through.

If your approach to your subjects are drastically different to that mentioned above, I would suggest that you change your approach. (From the sound of things, it seems like that you're using an ineffective approach anyway, so it's something worth looking over to check first.)

By the way, this question is under medicine. Are you implying that you intend to do a degree in medicine? If so, you might want to swap sociology out for chemistry, otherwise your choices for degrees in medicine would be drastically reduced.

If you’re too nervous/scared to ask for help in person you could always email them and they might give you links to some good resources, be specific with the things you’re struggling with, if your text book has introduction questions and end of topic questions do them as best you can and they normally have a website or a QR code for the answers. Good luck
