Maintenance loan and part time job

Hi,
I’m currently in my gap year and working part-time in my parents’ business, earning around £500p/m. I will start uni in September 2024 and was wondering if those earnings will affect the amount of maintenance loan I can get? Once at Uni, I can keep working for their business but will earn less (around £200 p/m), as it’s remotely. Can anyone help, please?
Your own earned income isn’t included in your household income calculation.

Only unearned income (eg from trust funds, investments or renting out properties) is counted

Hi there,

We do not take your own income into consideration when calculating your funding. It is only unearned income we would take, this would be things like investments, trust funds. If you are under 25 then we would look to take your parental income into consideration if you are applying for the higher rate of Maintenance Loan. Thanks, Ross

That’s great, many thanks; I’m trying to save as much as possible before starting university but will still need a maintenance loan, so it’s good to know that my application won’t be affected by it.
