Joint Honours to Single Honours - St Andrews

Is it possible to (after having received an offer) drop one of your joint honours subjects and move onto a single honours in one of them? Thus allowing you to take two alternatives alongside your new single honours subject in first/second year.

Has anyone done this?
I do not know if the following link is blocked to those without a St. Andrews account, but the university's official policy to undergraduates on changing modules/degree is here: https://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/media/proctor/documents/changes-studies.pdf . The key takeaway is that you cannot change degree programme when you are in your first year of studying. In the 1st or 2nd week however, you will have a 'adviser of studies' who you will meet and can discuss this issue with. Most schools will only, or prefer to discuss this at this time, as stated here: https://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/students/academic/academic-advising/choices/changing-year-of-entry/ and here https://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/students/academic/academic-advising/choices/changing-programme/ (again, those links maybe restricted).

I’m aware that once you accept the offer you need to pursue those degree subjects for at least one year. Wondering if resolving the issue before the offer is accepted could in any way bypass that?

It might. If you are sure you want to drop one of them now then you can ask if that is feasible. Otherwise I think you will be committeed to studying both of them for the first year and will only be able to change programme at the end of the first year.

What subjects have you been accepted on to, which do you want to drop and why? Probably worth having a good reason to explain your change of heart to admissions.
