Biology Core Practical 8 Tensile Strength (Edexcel) Help!

The equation for Tensile strength is force over the cross-sectional area but I'm a bit confused on the area bit. As the peel was in the shape of a ring, should i calculate the area of the circle of the ring or the area of the actual ring itself (if that makes sense).
