Journalism, Media etc. in Scotland

Okay, so i'm thinking of a career in the media, with journalism, or something along those lines. Film and photography is also a big interest of mine.
I'm finding it pretty hard to find a course in a well known Scottish University which would kinda tick the boxes for me? Or am i being too fussy?

and, hi, i'm new

and did i hear that Inverness was going to "try" and have its own university or sommin' like that?

Cheers.

Welcome... though you might want to consider leaving now before addiction sets in

Strathclyde does Journalism, and it's quite well-known; but I'm not sure what other Scottish uni's outside old polytechnics do.

I'm in first year at the moment doing "Publishing with Journalism" at RGU at the moment, but I don't think they are running it after this year... They do "Media Studies", "Communication with PR" and "Journalism" though - and I think those are still running. We have been mixed in with Media and Comm with PR for all of our modules so far, and for three/four next semester and have found it quite interesting, though there is more specialisation in later years. As its RGU I think they try to make their course more vocational rather than too theoretical - which I like as you get to actually do the stuff. Its good that its in the Business School too for similar reasons.

If I remember rightly from when I was applying, napier in Edinburgh do a lot of courses along similar lines to these as well.

What's happening with Inverness (or "Universty of the Highlands and Islands (UHI)") is that its a project made up of a whole load of colleges in the Highlands, working towards becoming one multi-campus university spread across. It isn't yet a university, but they do provide "University level education" or degrees, and recently have been granted the ability to issue their own degrees - previously their degrees were issued by Aberdeen, Strathclyde and the Open University. It will probably be quite a number of years yet before they can actually become a university though.

Hope that helps.
