What's more degrading: A Sexual preformer (Pornstar) or Prostitute?

Vote & Discuss why please. I can imagine most people saying prostitute (including me) as it just degrades the prostitute totally. Also a pornstar uses safe methods of intercourse & they generally don't have nasty diseases.

What do you think?

I believe being a prostitute is more degrading. Also, pornstars make tens of thousands per film.

Essentially, yes. However pornstars have certificates & licenses to do what they do and they are getting to paid to make a movie, not for the sex.

Prostitutes, although not by much. Pornstars are pretty much just the legal /hotter versions of prostitutes.

If you look at it completely without any societal bias then they are pretty much both selling your body for money. That said you don't pay taxes on prostitution but your pimp probably takes most of it if you have one. The difference is rather academic in strictly dispassionate terms, but I'd say because certain aspects of prostitution are illegal it comes with more social prejudice and risk attached and thus is more demeaning. You can't win an award for being LAs greatest whore. But you can for the quality of your work in porn films. :smile:

Pornstars are more often pornstars by choice - a lot of prostitutes are forced into it.

Hmmmmm: it depends, I've seen some porn where the women get treated like rag dolls or someone who isn't human at all but on the other hand they have the choice of safe sex, security (to a degree) and most of the time the guys actually look sane. prostitutes are paid to have sex with some of the most vile people you can ever meet but some also have sex with millionaires, sports stars etc etc, they get killed and could be beaten up by their clients and pimps. WTF they're both degrading.

Pornstars sell their body to more people, think how many people watch their films etc. Whereas prostitutes provide their service to far fewer people overall. For this reason I would actually say being a pornstar is more degrading. At least a prostitute can walk into a shop without some greasy haired teenager spotting them for what they are.

Even porn films are scripted though in advance, the fact is if they didn't want to do it unless there in a seedy side of the industry then they could just say **** off. Where as with prostitution it isn't always that easy.

I really wonder if the women in porn have as much autonomy and choice as people are making it out to be. I'm not sure that most women doing porn really WANT to do porn but just because they feel that's how they can make money. And if that's basically the only way they feel they can support themselves then their employers will have a fair deal of power over their career directions.

So...say doing rough seedy porn may not be what Annie Anderson loves doing but that's where the money comes from and so she does it. She's completely degraded and treated subhuman by 3 men at once and for all the internet to see also! For that reason I'd say porn has more potential to be degrading.

Neither of them are neccessarily degrading. Different people will find different jobs degrading and I don't think you can really say X job is more degrading than Y job.
