The Student Room Group

Don't just read research, take part in it!

If you able to get to Liverpool over the summer you may be able to help me and you can do something a little bit different at the same time!

I urgently require volunteers to take part in a psychology experiment I’m running at Liverpool John Moors University. You do NOT have to be a student at John Moores and you don’t need to know anything about psychology.

My area of research is the physiology of mental effort…

What happens to the brain and heart when we exert mental effort (e.g. completing a cross word, revising for exams, remembering a shopping list) compared to when we are relaxing.

Does the brain respond differently when someone tries to do a task they find easy compared to one they find difficult?

What factors may influence how hard someone tries at a task?

I am using highly specialised equipment to measure the activity of the brain and heart in order to answer questions like the ones listed above. Hopefully, the results of this research will be published in a major scientific journal.

Could you spare 1.5 hours (max.) to take part in my experiment? I’ll be testing from now until the end of July. The research has full ethical approval and you will receive a £10 Amazon voucher as compensation for out of pocket expenses. I need people who are right handed, aged between 18 - 40 with no major physical or mental illnesses.
