A handful of people at my college did 6 A levels (including general studies). That would have been too much work for me, but it really depends on the person. I know at least one of those people got 6 A's, so it can't have been too much work for him.

It depends on how much of a workload you want to give yourself. Personally, I wouldn't do any more than 4 (or 5 if you plan to drop one at A2).

Yello everyone out there.

I've just finished high school, and in september I'll be starting college.
Just one minor problem though

I still don't know what to do

The main problem is with how many to do, Would 5 subjects be too many? Especially bearing in mind I'm planning on doing a selection from/of Biology, Maths(Mechanics), Physics, Chemistry and Archaeology.

I'd be extremely grateful if people could tell me their experiences of what the subjects were like or if they did 5, and how they found it. Also if anybody else is starting in september you can chip in with random comments too

My friend, who is pretty amazing, did 5 for AS (got As in all), but still dropped one. I don't think she thought she could do more than 4 at A2.
And how on earth could your school/college timetable more than 5, it'd just be too stressfu and too muchl.

Tbh, I say you would be better off dropping Archaelogy and concentrating on the other four, so you would have a much stronger selection and better grades. In short, Archaeology isn't worth it.

To answer your question, depends on the individual. Some people can't do even one, some people with a stretch can do 6, and a guy in fact had done 22, so it really depends.

However it's not really how many you do, but the quality, e.g. AAAA is much more better than AABBB. And tbh, that's why *you* should drop Arch and continue all 4 to A2.

I did 6 AS and 4 A2s. It was fine; totally manageable, and unis were more flexible with their offers for me, e.g. AAA or AABB which was cool!

4 is becoming the norm, so I'll do 4, five is a bonus if you can do it.

Yeah, I'm starting college too. I'm doing 4 AS courses, but I plan to take them all to A level - instead of dropping to 3, like most people are. I would say doing 5 is fine (as long as you work hard), but doing 4 is good too, there's a better chance of success and it will be fine as long as you choose good (un blacklisted) subjects. And good luck on results day!

I took 5 AS ( Biology , Chemistry , Physics , Core Mathematics 1 & 2 , and Arabic ) ... it wasn't as terrible as some people told me it would be ... of course it took alot of work , but all was under control

I'm still not sure what i'm takin for A2 ... but probably i'll go for 3 because I don't need more than that 4 uni.
5 subjects at AS is mandatory at my school BUT the 5th is Critical Thinking, so its not really a heavy serious AS level.

3 subjects at A2 is enough. Even the top unis only make offers for 3 A levels. BUT if you want to do four, go for it.

You know you are doing too many when you can no longer keep up with the work load.

I did 5 AS.

It gives me a good choice for A2 depending on my grades, but it's not worth it. You then get no frees when everyone else is off socialising. Take 4 AS and 3 A2 and you'll be fine, and still meet all uni offers.
