Hmmm, it appears that they are still looking for cyclists for the Opening Ceremony - more auditions were being held today for it. Invites to audition seem to have gone out to the main London cycling clubs - which makes sense since they are more likely to be comfortable cycling in close proximity to one another than other cyclists.

I wonder if davelobley (our cyclist auditionee from early March) got a place.

And it seems that the cyclists group also have a 'one miss and you're out' strategy to rehearsals.

Hmmm, interesting. Maybe they didn't have enough cyclists audition or maybe they decided to increase the number? I'd thought with the amount of cycle couriers in London and cycling clubs that obtaining numbers wouldn't be a problem?

The past couple of rehearsals I went to featured a fair number of skateboarders. Very intriguing....
...not in my Segment though - they were queuing up.
I was at a Chinese restaurant last night, - when a guy came in for a takeaway
he was bursting to tell the owner that his disabled partner had been chosen to be in the Para opening ceremony- his pride was palpable -He spoke of the years of sports training his partner had been through

The sphinxlike owner couldn’t have under-reacted to the news any less -Me being nosey just wanted to butt in & congratulate him and tell him about my small connection
but I was eavesdropping- so my British reserve kicked in!!

-and said nothing

regret it now,

Chicky :hello:
P.S For Redthunder or Anyone looking for accomodation

I have recently seen adverts for EASYHOTELS -there are Four in various locations most near a district line station which is direct to 1:1

They're advertising £35 per night - and I think if I remember the reviews of them when they first opened said they were very smal & very orange -

But clean & cheap what more do you want?

Chicky :hello:
Been having a very lazy day today and came across this online - it's a timelapse video of the Olympic Stadium in Athens that starts with the Opening Ceremony and then shows all the work that is required to turn a 'theatre' back into a track and field venue and then back into a 'theatre' for the Closing Ceremony. I don't recall seeing it linked here before but of course at 429 pages, I could be wrong!

It's quite a thought provoking 3 minutes although I'd go without sound unless you want Las Ketchup in your head for days to come!

FASCINATING!!! Was so blown away by this  Was watching the vid with the sound on through my headphones and heard my other half saying : "I can hear that you're watching the Las Ketchup vid on YouTube". Errrrrr, nope
Just back from 1:1 - a surprisingly physical workout and in need of a hot bath!!:bath: In contrast to reports of yesterday it was bitterly cold for most of the time and really regretted not taking a woolly hat like some of the others - although I had packed a sun hat and sunglasses - thanks for that tip AKST... But at least we did not have any rain - yay! The site is being tarmaced this week which should be better as the light concrete was quite bright on the eyes.

Entry into the site with our pass was very slick as was the bib handout. The shuttle bus worked well but it was quite a way and obviously a long queue on leaving and the station platform was absolutely packed - people must have thought the football season was still on (although of course we were much better behaved).

We were told not to leave purses or phones in the tent so it may be worth any of you bringing a bumbag to wear for valuables. There was food available on site - burgers/chips etc but quite expensive -(e.g. £2.50 for chips) and a specialist coffee tent but there was also a 'free' coffee tent a la 3 Mills. Although we were there at 10 am our group did not have a tea break until 2.20 so I would suggest having something to eat as soon as you get to the 1:1 if you have had an early breakfast! There were plenty of loos although there was no soap although this was remedied when I commented (but plenty of loo paper (!) which was surprising with so many people there).

Interested to hear that there were some cycling auditions today - we saw hordes of cyclists as we were leaving.:bike::bike::bike::bike::bike::bike:

The guy next to me has now missed 2 rehearsals so he should be out. Apparently there was one new guy here who only heard this week he had a place so I think there will be a few upgrades for the reserves in the next couple of weeks so fingers crossed guys and galsl! :crossedf: Let's hope for more good news this week.

Thank you all so much for your accommodation tips. You're all ever so kind X

I've been on it all day! It's all just a little daunting when you don't know London at all. Got the tube map up, Google maps up and searching for hotels too. All helped by a nice glass of red though so things could be worse!

It's so exciting reading everyone's stories on here of their rehearsals. 27th June cannot come quick enough....well, actually it can as the curse of TSR struck me too, two weeks ago and I'm on crutches

Fell over........DANCING!!!!:ashamed2:......I'll say no more.

It is only sprained, but my word I've broken bones that are not as painful, or swollen or bruised as this. It's been RICE, RICE and RICE for me and intense Physio starts next week. I WILL be ok, but my word I cried my heart out with fear that I'd blown my chances when I did it. Happy now, starting to walk ok after two weeks and hoping with all my heart I'm that last one on TSR to be struck down!

Happy Sunday all X

I've got my leg up on the coffee table, both legs in surgical socks (as the good leg's starting to get tired, what with taking some of the burden off my bad leg). Bad leg has deep heat and surgical sock which feels like a sauna. At least the swelling's gone down and it "almost" looks normal. Slight little tightness but not as intense as the past few days. Spending the rest of the day resting it followed by a piping hot :bath: later on.

Well I believe "2 missed rehearsals and you're out" rule seems to still be the case? Although, I'm now hearing that this rule no longer applies to some of the Segments - no?
....or is it 3 missed rehearsals and you're DEFINITELY out??

I will let you know next week what nappens about 'my missing man' and whether or not he has been replaced. Since we are all in bib order it is easy for us and the casting team to spot someone missing

Yes that is the case in my latest update email, we haven't started yet but date has been brought forward and there are fewer dates but they are all compulsory so we have to have 100% attendance or we are out!!! Bit tough but hey ho....

Can anyone recommend a "modern" looking bumbag? I don't want to look like I have just stepped out of the 80s

If your mobile's relatively small and you're not carrying a cajillion keys, a money belt wallet could do the trick.

Haha I love them. Let's do it peeps, let' bring back bumbags! If we all wear baseball caps to the rehearsals too we can look like a mass group of Mr Motivator's disciples.
