Could ISIS make a dirty Bomb?

Could they really get their hands on plutonium

They don't need plutonium. Any sort of nuclear material would do. Whether they could do it or not? There are worrying gaps in global nuclear security. Especially in places like Belgium. It's unlikely but not impossible and all too likely in the long term.

I hope not! It's so frightening just thinking about it if they ever got their hands on such a thing
Tbh they are doing enough already with normal bombs. :colonhash: Truly pisses me off

Well haven't the Africans been trading arms with NK for a while? I'm sure good old Kim will loosen the purse strings if it means death to America...no?
American will probably give the 'rebel fighters' nukes to defend themselves.

No but I heard they like to make dirty bums.
Its definitely a high risk consequences but the chance of it is slim but NOT impossible.... A expert on chemical and nuclear weapons said that Isis don't have the intelligence to make such weapons

But big bad nuclear weapons stop wars.
They could make a single hydrogen bomb which could destroy the whole of london if set off. Korea has one, so if they became allies......:/

You might want to look up what goes into a dirty bomb, it has little to nothing to do with nuclear weapons.

Fine.

Lets give them actual nukes. Give everyone nukes!

Stop all wars that way.
Didn't a boy scout once assemble a nuclear reactor in his backyard?
It would be very easy for them to get nuclear material if they have the money, the security is dreadful for spent fuel to say that it is potentially such dangerous stuff

North Korea would happily donate a suitcase nuke to the spiritual warriors of SOCTIS

smh

Well no. MAD only applies when you are dealing with rational players. Nuclear weapons certainly stop wars, but only when certain conditions apply, rational players, warning times, etc.
Apparently ISIS have already got some radioactive material from universities they've captured in Iraq. Luckily it's not radioactive enough cause much harm though.

Dirty bombs aren't that scary tbh

You'd probably think differently if you were caught in the middle of an attack. A conventional bomb is pretty limited and once it's gone off the clear up is usually relatively straightforward. A highly radioactive material would effectively create no go zones for dozens/hundreds of years, cause heavy casualties immediately and badly affect the long term health of those not given a lethal dose too.
Any kind of chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear attack in the West would cause far more concern than even a coordinated conventional attack.

True, but even if ISIS managed to made a dirty bomb in Syria or Iraq, that's a big difference to getting it into the West. How would they smuggle it in (the weapons and bombs for the Paris and Brussels attacks were acquired locally)? The more likely victim of such an attack would likely be Turkey, sadly for them.

I'd like to think they wouldn't be able to due to NATO/EU/FVEYs intelligence services and border controls. But with thousands of people coming into the EU from Iraq and Syria it certainly makes the the job of the Intel services that bit harder and the job of the terrorists easier.
There was reports of jihadists wanting to kidnap a Belgian nuclear power station worker and his family to force him to get them radioactive material.
News reports suggest that 11 Belgium nuclear power station workers have been suspended due to jihadist connections too. Again, I'd like to think it's not easy to get material of out these areas due to security and Intel services but it'd be dangerous to dismiss plots like these as no threat whatsoever.

Depends on the materials used

Agreed but I reckon even a low grade "dirty" bomb would cause a lot of public outrage and fear as it's technically a WMD.
