How to meet people after uni

I graduate next week, and, as I see it, my life is over. Unless I end up working for a massive company, chances are I'll end up in a job with just a couple of people my age. I'm concerned that I'm never going to make new friends now or have a relationship... If I failed to find someone willing to get into a relationship with me when I was surrounded by people my own age, what are the chances of finding that when I'll be surrounded mostly by people over double my age?
Does life really end at 22? Am I resigned to spending my weekends by myself watching Britain's got talent with 87 cats? Is it possible to have a wide social circle and thriving social life after uni? Especially considering that existing friends will now be all over the place? To make matters worse I'm quite shy, certainly not the type of person to strike up a conversation with a stranger in the street or the gym. Is it possible to have the best time of my life now, or should I go to the cats home and start my collection?

Joining a gym is a good start

I've been an active gym member for 3 years and failed to make a single friend there, I don't see it as a very social environment unless you go with friends.

You're a girl version of me pretty much...

It's over. Perhaps not Britain's got Talent, more like Strictly Come Dancing :frown:

Worked for me during that year between undergrad and postgrad.
Making friends outside uni is very difficult, I feel your pain. My suggestion is get a pet, like a dog. I heard it's a great way to meet people.

I've been to several events on that site and most of the people who turn up are in their 40's, it is consistently like that and it will be rare for her to come across another 22 year old,

still worth going though if you've got no other avenues ..but bare in mind the main crowd are around their 40's and people in their early 20's are rare.

most of the suggestions here are not good. this one [although not ideal due to her age] probably has the best chance of leading to something provided she's willing to put in the hours attending events looking for someone her age.

True to an extent; most of the meetups will be dominated by middle-aged people but you will meet young people if you join the few tailored towards us with an age limit.

Explore your interests and you'll find like-minded people.
It can be tricky, but I found a combination of online dating and general socialising worked fine. It's not as easy as "turn up to a society and gain 50 new friends", but you'll find that you end up with a core group of good friends rather than hundreds of acquaintances. Also surely some of your friends will be moving near you?
