Bailrigg FM

Hey,

I thought the time had come for a shameless (but v.friendly!) plug for Bailrigg FM!

What is it?:

It's the campus radio station and is run entirely by student volunteers. We broadcast all year round, 24/7, with DJs on air from 6am-2am 7 days a week during term time.
Bailrigg FM is one of the oldest and most respected student radio stations in the country; we were the 2nd station founded and the 1st to broadcast on FM. We've won plenty of awards over the years which considering our size and budget is no mean feat.

How to get involved:

As I said before the station is run entirely by students. We have a Management Committee that oversees everything going on, with positions such as Head of Sport, Head of Music, Production, Engineering, PR, Systems Admin etc. Each of these positions can have a team helping them which is a great way to get involved and meet people. The sports team, for example, does live coverage of every Lancaster City home match which is unique to us, and the whole station comes together to do a special Outside Broadcast at Roses. This is the annual sporting event between the universities of York and Lancaster held over 4 days and it alternates between campuses. This year about 10 of us went up to York to help with coverage, and in May it'll be our turn once again to host.

The most obvious way to get involved is to beome a DJ. You get the choice of what sort of show you would like to do, from hosting NML (New Musical Lunch) that showcases all the latest music, to having your own specialist show, to having a chat show during the afternoon.

Don't worry if you have never set foot into a studio before; every person gets full training with all the equipment and it is pretty easy to pick up. There's also always someone about in the station to help out if needed, and we're all pretty friendly

How to listen:

If at first you're not sure what sort of clubs and societies you want to be involved in you can just tune in and have a listen. We broadcast on 87.7FM on campus, and at www.bailriggfm.co.uk.

We will be about campus throughout Freshers Week making ourselves known to all the new Freshers, and we'll be doing an Outside Broadcast on a couple of days. You'll see us at the Societies Fair (we're normally the first people you see) so if you want to get involved come and say hi
My flatmate used to be the Station Manager, so obviously I have to say that Bailrigg FM rules
Everyone should check it out and get involved

Everyone should give it a go. Got a few slots last year and had a blast - hoping to get some this year too 8D
I know quite a few people who have done their own shows, always great to listen to when one needs a distraction from work. Do it.

I must admit, I only discovered the station late last year, but I have to say the music on it is FANTASTIC. Much better than the mainstream trash radio 1 are playing these days. Congrats on that.
