Historians applying for Durham

The Cambridge admissions tutor gave me one (Peterhouse) and was sheer hell! I had only read Carr too, but he tore into me!

I didn't know the admissions tutors give mock interviews! Is it a good idea though, since if you do really badly and then come back for the real thing, they'll already know you???

I'm sorry that it was so awful. My interviewers at St. John's were very nice.

He only did it to a favour to our history teacher me thinks! He wasn't horrible, he was really nice-just challenged me and I wasn't very good at answering Philosophy questions!xxxx

Yeah, same here, I've only just started to discover philosophy/theory of history, and in my interview I had to discuss an essay by David Hume on the history of the arts and sciences. And as it happens, one of my interviewers was a specialist on history of Political Thought and one of the sharpest arguers in the Cambridge History Department, which means something!! She didn't grill me too much, however I failed miserably trying to understand the Hume essay, I only had half and hour to prepare it and was hopelessly lost.

I'm sure you'll be fine! Roll on Jan yeah? HAve you seen if the Durham tracker has progressed, I have lost my pin and was wondering! I desperately want a decision before xmas so I can stop worrying

Thanks for your support! We'll see... I'll post the reply as soon as I've got it. I checked the Durham tracker yesterday, mine still says "Your application was received by the department" and when I went on the UCAS site I was pleased to find out that I had been rejected by Exeter the day before. Never mind. Maybe I'll check again today... I don't bother to check Durham's actual website though, they probably haven't changed it in two years! I was so annoyed last year when I wanted to look up open days and the websites still had the dates of open days from one or two years ago! One thing I like about Cambridge is their efficiency.

Some people got their rejections on Christmas Eve in the past few years I heard, what a nice present that would be! I can't remember who said it, but if it's right that Durham waits for the Oxbridge decisions first, then I'm afraid you'll have to wait until early-mid-January...

Ahh that's ages! Don't worry about Exeter, they are rubbish anyway! Who u waiting for now?

so far Durham is the only offer i have got!!! i got rejected from Warwick in October ans the next dya I got an offer by post from Collingwood, for AAB including History.
I got rejected from Cambridge in Janurary and thats all Ive heard so far. Slightly panicing now!! My friends though who have also applied from Durham havnt heard yet but actualyl got into Oxford and Cambridge - maybe they can tell whos going to get in????
dont worry though, no one else i know has heard from Durham yet anyway - i think i was lucky!!!!
