Im afraid you're not correct. I am applying as a grad now, did my GCSEs 5 years ago, and med schools do still care.
Not that much though, after A levels and years of university exams, GCSEs take a back seat...they aren't that important, especially for the OP to stress over.
It is a fact that the higher you go up the academic ladder, what you did before doesn't matter as much...the same way that when you're doing a PhD no one will really care what you got in your first year BSc exams...
