Hi, I was wondering which universities had the best music departments, in particular the high-ranking ones? I am hoping to study medicine, but as music is a big part of my life, one of my prerequisites for university is good music facilities. Any help would be appreciated, Thank you Eliane
I'm not sure about the department itself, but Cambridge has a LOT of facilities and opportunities for musicians. I would say "for musicians of all standards" but in reality that's not true - you have to be good to get involved in most things (I had grade 7 on the cello and wasn't even good enough for my college orchestra, though I did admittedly go to a very musical college). There are 3 major university orchestras (CUSO and CUMS 1&2), most colleges have chapel choirs, and there are lots of opportunities for opera/musical theatre/recitals/chamber music if you're dedicated to it. But I suspect Cambridge is not alone in this...
