RAF Airman Application Process

My application process is nearing the end! PRTC is in a month, something to look forward to! Would be cool to see if anyone else is going to the same PRTC as I am. It's been an interesting process so far though
Your Journey is very useful, so thankyou. I'm still at the early stages and only just applying for the raf, I am worried about not passing the aptitude test I'm aware I just need to work hard and revise but do u know if there is a pass rate at all?
Thanks
If you have just finished Secondary school and have good GCSE's are there courses at Welbeck or RAF colleges so you can train to become a physiotherapist or do you have to go to a University or another College to train. Can you train at Welbeck or do you have to have other qualifications after GCSE so you can train to be a physiotherapists.

Hey, guys. I have my AST a week tomorrow, going up to Cranwell sunday morning. I was told in the P2 presentation I would be going up on the sunday to greet the staff and socialise with other candidates. The second day, monday, being a day of examinations and returning back home (Cardiff) later on that day. I've been reading various experiences through the AST, which all of the candidates seem to stay there for a few days with interviews? Am I right in believing the AST will only last one day with then booking an interview following a aspired pass in the tests?

Can anyone help?! Thanks!!
Did you have to book your own travel? Or did you get passes for train/journey?

You are getting confused between AST (Airman Selection Test), CBAT (Computer Based Aptitude Tests), and OASC (Office and Airman Selection Centre).

If you are attending Cranwell to do you testing you are going up to do CBAT.

OASC is the three day selection at Cranwell which involves interview, fitness, team building, leadership exercises.

Many years ago the CBAT was done on Day 1 of OASC. Today, you go up to Cranwell initially to do you CBAT, if you are successful you then go up to OASC at a later date.
The AST is done when you are joining as an Airman (Not an officer)
Good luck grs111 let us know how you get on. I would also like to know about travel.
Did you find it difficult?
Are all aptitude tests done at Cranwell now then and are all CBAT?
Cheers.

Computer Based Aptitude Tests (CBAT) are done at Cranwell. You do them if you want to go for Officer, SNCO or Aircrew roles.

Pilot, ATCO, SNCO ATC, ABM, Int, WSOp

If you are going in as an airman the aptitude test (AST) is done at your AFCO.

[INDENT]Hi guys,

I went to do my Raf fitness test today but they wouldn't let me as my blood pressure was 142. It has to be 140 or below.

Anyone had experience of this and could advise me of my next steps etc?

I had my blood pressure taken only 2 weeks ago at my GP and it was only 123.

cheers

Have they offered you another attempt? You may have just been very nervous before the test.
Went straight to a local pharmacy after and it was 133/70.

I can run the 1.5 mile in just under 10 mins. I haven't spoke to my AFCO yet so will have to wait and see what they say on Monday.

Any one know what the next step is likely to be?

They'll ask you to try again.

How long that will take, no-one here can tell you.
Hi all,

I have my AST next week in Portsmouth.

are they as duanting as they sound. what should i expect?

Thanks.
My partner is currently due to have her interview after the aptitude test, i contacted the RAF to see if she would be needed to be available a few weeks after the interview, would this go against her application?

Just so people are aware, I still get people PMing me questions, and I still try and answer as best I can. Bare in mind that I've been in the air force for almost 5 years now and some of the processes will mostly likely have changed.

Edit: Probably best to ask TornadoGR4

On the flip side, I have very recently gone through the entire process, and start basic training very shortly. So I'm able to answer any queries anyone may have

Hi Naigan,

just wondering if you could tell me how long of a break you get between the run and doing the press ups and sit ups during the fitness test? i have been practising with two minute intervals between each.

There isn't a specific time, could be straight into it could be a 5 minute break.

Train with no break, then you can only find it easier.
