Start dates for basic training

My son has applied to join the RAF recently for Aircraft Technician Avionics - status is that he has passed DAA test and filter interview by phone - awaiting medical etc. He is currently studying for his A-levels and will take his exams in May/June 2024. It appears the application process is quite long. If he were to find out he was successful in his application to RAF and basic training starts before May/June 2024 would he be allowed to defer basic training to straight after his A-level exams, or would he either have to (1) not take his A-levels exams and drop out, or (2) re-apply on the portal to RAF after his A-level exams? Would the RAF be sympathic an defer him to a start date post A-level exams May/June 2024. Of course this is only relevant if his application is successful.
