Hi there...i want to study Psychology, law and film at A level...however i want to do a 4th.
I intend to study either psychology or law at university...i do not want to do bio, chem, physhics, english, history or business...and i know this seems a little strange
However i have chosen 2 "top" a levels and 1 "lesser" a level...and i want to know what other possibilites there are (other than the ones i said above) would be best if i wanted to study law or psychology at uni...
I did both Psychology and Film Studies A2 and picked up Sociology which I found went really well with those two subjects also got a place to to study Psychology at uni so its a good combo

Biology would be good with psychology. It's very respected, and biology will give you a better grounding for a psychology degree.
hmmm..thats sounds good...is sociology respected by uni's?
Most - I mean I don't know about cambridge and oxford, but tbh it doesn't matter what uni you go to - if you work hard, and study hard, you can get a first whatever uni you go to. I'm going to Plymouth and they accept Sociology, just some snobby unis may not but it really does match/suit the content you'll learn in psychology - they go really well together.

ok, does sociology include things that you do in psychology?
and is sociology actually a hard subject...would you advise me to do sociology or law with these subjects - psychology, ict and film.
i intend to study psychology at uni, so which would be better?

Sociology would be better if you wanna do Psychology for sure. They both include something called "research methods", which is basically all the technical stuff about different kids of experiments and techniques. Sociology AS is pretty simple (although I did it alongside my A2's which are more difficult in comparison). It's mostly learning case studies (which is what you do in Psych too) and mentioning studies in your essays to support points i.e low seretonin levels can create agression - dabbs study of prisoners showed that criminals convicted of agressive crimes had lower levels of seretonin (a2 psych Unit 3 stuff). hope that helps
I wouldn't take Law if I was you. It is seen as a "softer" subject and it is recommended that you don't study Law at A Level if you want to study Law at University.
I'm not giving personal reasons, it is just on the list given by Trinity College. All four of your subjects are considered "Soft", so you probably wouldn't have much of a chance at getting into one of the top Universities.
Here is the list:
LIST A1 Generally Suitable Science A-levels
Biology Chemistry Mathematics Further Mathematics Physics
LIST A2 Generally Suitable Arts A-levels
Art History Chinese Classical Civilisation Economics English Literature French Geography German Greek History Irish Italian Japanese Latin Music Philosophy Religious Studies Russian Spanish Welsh
LIST B A-levels of More Limited Suitability
Archaeology (Arch & Anth) Art & Design (Arts) Business Studies (Economics) Design & Technology (Architecture) Drama/Theatre Studies (Arts) Electronics (Engineering) English Language (Arts) Film Studies (Arts) Government & Politics (Arts) Law (Land Economy & Law) Media Studies (Arts) Psychology (Arts) Sociology (Arts)
LIST C A-levels Suitable Only As Fourth Subjects
Accounting Applied Science Citizenship Communication Studies Computing Critical Thinking Dance Environmental Science General Studies Health & Social Care Home Economics ICT Leisure Studies Music Technology Performance Studies Performing Arts Perspectives on Science Photography Physical Education Science Science for Public Understanding Sports Studies Travel & Tourism World Development
well tbh i disagree with that list completely...both psychology and law are top subjects...for example to study either at uni u need AAA-AAB so to me that makes no sense for A levels...that list is obviously fixed or biased!
As I said, it isn't my opinion, but the opinion of Kings College Cambridge and generally the opinion of other top Universities.
If you want to study Law at University, they recommend that you don't take "A Level Law", as they more or less tell you to forget everything that you have learned from it.
If you want to study Law at University, don't bother taking it at A Level.
Apparently Law is regarded as a weak A-level by the most renowned universities like LSE and UCL, however if you're sure you want to study it at A-level then thats fine as i did so aswell.. how about Psychology, Law, Sociology and Film.. i did three of these excluding Film and found it hard work but bearable.. goodluck!
