Phone and see, or choose which place you would prefer to go if you got an offer, as I had to get a Rose Bruford one rearrange as they set it on the same day as my a level study trip was happening, which had to be done to complete the A-level. They never got back to me after a letter and email explaining the situation. So just think where you would go if you could and re-arrange the other in case they don't offer another date.

Ahh thats what I'm scared of happening to me. I think I'll go with Rose Bruford and ring up ALRA on Monday as their office is closed today.

Thanks for the help  x
wow this thread seems to move abit slow..is it cause its to early in the year or what?

Applying to drama school is never as popular as applying to university and never will be, you're pretty much on you're own

Hey everyone , i got an audition for LIPA in january soo afraid as im so bad at audition has anyone had one before , or has any information on them it would be great ! oh its the acting course xx
My friend's got one on 10th January so we were helping her write her devised monologue last week in Drama. That's about all I can help you with though! I know for 'normal' auditions (for the school play and such like) you have to just relax. They want you to do well!

yeah the monolouge bit kinda put me off , im going to old drama teacher tomorrow to see if she will help me out with that ! yeah thats what it says in the forms relax and be yourself haha

I auditioned for an MA at LIPA a few years ago. There was a large number of people there but you only audition in front of a panel rather than everyone.

Applying for Stage Management and Technical Theatre.

RADA- Had interview on November 26th
LAMDA- Had interview on November 30th
GSA- 5th of January interview
Mountview (postgrad course)- Haven't heard yet as interviews are in January for that course.

Anyway checked my e-mails today and.... had a LAMDA letter of acceptance waiting for me!!! REALLY chuffed.

Can't decide whether LAMDA or RADA is my first choice... Any suggestions people?

From the stage managers I've spoken to about it, LAMDA has a much better reputation for stage management. Congrats on your offer - I'm there at the moment and absolutely love it. Though saying that, they're currently building a new theatre which probably won't be ready until the time you graduate knowing these sorts of things so it won't be as predictable as the others. Instead of performing in our old theatre, we're in professional theatres at the moment - in Wilton's Music Hall next term and the Tricycle in the following, so it does have its perks! Any questions, don't hesitate to ask

OOOH great to know someone who's there at the moment. Was SO shocked to get the offer as my interview went really badly... or so I thought. I got told about the refurbishment issue at the interview and I reckon it's quite good working at professional theatres, gets you used to other places and working with professionals. Are your hours quite long? I assume they are, not that it's a problem just wondering.

Yeah they can be, depends on your role on each show. Things like LX are fine, but Stage Management and construction can be 80 hour weeks in production period. But that's theatre in general - if you're not working those hours then the course isn't teaching you what real theatre involves!! Rehearsal period hours are fine though, 9.30 - 6 or 7 most days for everything but construction, which is 8-6 every day.

Sounds busy but great! Didn't expect any less and I LOVE being busy. One last question for today at least... How does the average year work? Do you rotate from construction to LX to SM...?

It's different for each school - I particularly like how LAMDA do it after hearing how other places do it.

For LAMDA - There are 6 'rotations' per year - two in winter, two in spring, two in summer. In your first year, the two winter rotations are spent learning practical and theoretical skills. That's all the lessons you'll have in the whole course. From January, you start working in roles on shows, in one of the departments (LX, SM, Sound, Construction). For each of these, you'll take on real roles, as LX crew/operators, ASMs, sound operators/crew, and production carpenters/stage crew. There's also a technical stage manager role you do in the studio space where you run all the departments with only one other person, which is great but incredibly challenging as you're still in your first year and it might even be the first rotation you go on! You'll eventually cover each of these departments in the spring and summer rotations. Each rotation has a 'theme' every year, so the first spring one is the musical, the second the international 3 show tour, etc etc.

In the second year, you have chosen the four roles you want to specialise in (mine are DSM, SM, Deputy Chief Production Carpenter & Sound HOD) and you undertake 2 professional placements (mine was one massive one on Matilda the Musical at the RSC). So there are always 6 rotations running throughout the year, but everyone takes their placements at different times so the productions are always fully staffed.

I hope that makes sense! Do ask away
