Yes, all art universities from the country. I agree the fair in general was rubbish, mainly just walked in, got a few free pencils and tote bags and poked around the UAL section, then walked out again...at Olympia i think

Don't knock free pencils! The time may come when you are desperate! (My tip for surviving art school life - avoid the urge to specialise in giant bronze sculptures and go for miniature pen and ink sketches instead. Much cheaper!)

Yep, that's the one. I wonder if we went on the same day. I just found it ridiculously overwhelming, really. Not in the sense that I thought there were too many options, because I'd pretty much made up my mind by that point about where I wanted to apply (why did they have it so late?!), but I literally couldn't look at any of the staff/students at the stands without them coming over and trying to persuade me to go there. It was just...aaah! I'm really not one of those people who can just chat to strangers, and I really didn't like that many people approaching me.

I know, I know, I sound really miserable  It was a "compulsory trip" though, so I was stuck there for a few hours before the bus left again. Only LCA and NTU were there out of my choices, anyway. Not that this matters at all, it was ages ago!
Right well, I have massive news.

I GOT IN TO GOLDSMITHS.

They asked me not to mention it to others who were applying, as they don't usually give out offers then and there at interview but to hell with that. I think everyone here knows that standard procedure is a week's wait and won't start worrying that they've been rejected.

I'm still in shock to be honest.

I can't rep you again, but well done, that's amazing!!! Are you going to accept it?

How come they told you straight away? They must have loved your work!

Have you guys heard from ECA?

NO! I've heard a few people got invited to the applicant day like a month ago! I've also heard of some people who recently got rejected. I've heard nothing - which I'm assuming to be bad news to be honest! We shall see!

I'm the same, really dislike all that pushiness, also not a natural people person haha

It was seriously, seriously nice. I was interviewed by 2 of the studio tutors and they were just laughing and joking and asking quite general questions - they seemed really positive. It was totally different to Wimbledon, they sort of treated me like an equal as opposed to some sort of interrogation. They actually only looked at 4 of my sheets and my sketchbooks before one of them winked at the other, told me to sit down and said they'd accept me. It was just surreal.

I'm a bit torn between there and Wimbledon now, mainly because of the semester abroad and the work placements/exhibitions they get involved with, but saying that I don't know if I'd be stupid to turn this place down. Goldsmiths is a hell of a lot cheaper, easier to get to and you live on campus which is a huge bonus for me as I don't know London that well. Serious decisions to be made!

I had a crappy, crappy time last year though so this is sort of validation that I did the right thing I guess. Plus I can't wait to rub it in my old tutor's face seeing as she said I didn't deserve to get in last year

I'm not sure yet, I think so but I don't want to rush anything.

I don't honestly know! The guy said they'd only done it 2 or 3 times before and they've still got 5 days of interviews left which is seriously flattering! Maybe it's because I've already got my foundation year or something? :s-smilie:

Don't assume anything. As I've said before, but it's a long way back, my son got his ECA offer on May 8th two years ago.

Ah, huge congratulations. I didn't know you lived on campus at Goldsmiths! Is that compulsory? I wouldn't be prepared, to let my life revolve around campus like that! Were they both female? Cos the course directors look as though they are. I have emailed a tutor on the course earlier who emailed me before, just to apologize and maybe get another shot, doubt i will though. I can't believe it was so relaxed for you, i was hoping it would be more so than the general Fine Art. Massive congratulations to you!!!

I don't think it's compulsory no, but all the halls are within a 20 minute walk. I didn't think it really felt too campus-y though, and I HATE campus unis with a passion  One guy, one woman - I'd not seen the man before but the other was Roxy, she spoke at the open days I think?

I think because there aren't that many places you have a much closer relationship with your tutors, so they want to get to know you as more than your work. That's what it felt like anyway. My interview last year was the same, really informal and relaxed. I think it helps you get yourself across better.

Hope you get a shot at it! It'd be a shame to miss out just because of stupid transport.

Thankyou! It sounds like it might be right for you.. sleep on it?! That's what I'd do! So exciting for you

d'awww feel bad at having nothing in the way of an offer yet, i feel like one of the only people on here with a wavering possibility of getting in nowhere!! Anybody else with that?

Jo you will definitely, definitely, 100% get in somewhere. Your work's really good, you know what you're talking about, and you've proved that you're committed by leaving a degree that wasn't right for you and going after what you really want. Why would you end up with nowhere at all?

I've got a while yet to decide, and 3 more interviews (might cancel though) so hopefully I'll make the right choice!

Ah thankyou! that's so kind and akin to a virtual hug which I was in need of! :colondollar: :h:
i was so down in the dumps with despair on the train this morning, it was crazy!

somaya I would love to see your portfolio progress and try to help.
.. just read somebody on my course applying to CSM got asked if they were a home or international student, after saying they were a home student got instantly rejected - how disillusioning is that! So much for looking to talent and artistic merit, money money money. it used to be a great school back in the day..

PS: Sorry to any people who are going there not meaning offence, excuse me for being slightly bitter as i did favour it at one time!

no, it's true. the international students on my course all had one interview for all three courses (camberwell, Wimbledon and chelsea) and just about everyone got in coz its alllll about monies

Yeah, I used to like to think it was just because international students probably have had to learn languages and be better travelled, therefore be more intelligent & talented for getting in, but when it's been so outright about money and fees like that with CSM, it's disappointing. Oh well...spent hours on this thread better take a sleeping pill again for another not wanting to face college without an offer morning!
