Now that the Murdoch empire, with all its sleaze, cynicism and corruption is being called to account, is it not time to look at getting the Page 3 culture closed down? Is it really right that in 2011, the largest-selling newspaper is allowed to publish demeaning, exploitative photos of undressed women every day like this, as a cheap thrill? This is surely pornography and should not be on sale to children the way it currently is.

I am glad someone has the same point of view as me on this.

I HATE the way women are being degraded atm. Like in music videos etc, straight women are shown to become lesbians. And lesbians kissing men! It's utterly ridiculous. We are shown to be just for sex. And people are believing it ...

What kind of fairly world are you living in?

No girl goes happily into pornography (99.9%). It is done out of desperation and is often crushing for their self esteem.

Ha, how naive :P
I was on page three once.

I think the abundance of porn on the internet might kill page 3 by itself.

Otherwise, no its not any more exploitative than any other occupation. Is a man exploited if he works as a labourer? Is that selling his body? What's the difference?

Not that the OP knows anyone who does labouring. Probably has **** all idea of real peoples lives.

Well, it is tacky and distasteful but men are always going to view women as sexual objects....

This is my theory:- Men either flaunt women as sexual objects or they cover women up to control their urges (which still makes them sexual objects). Women are supplicant to all of this because automatic sexual power is our greatest asset and that is how we have got through the centuries. Men have to work harder to get laid and reproduce and they have a natural hate for women because of their automatic power and this display of female sexual power is belittled in society to keep us down. It's not nudity that objectifies us it is the fact we have less power in society.
Men have other assets, they are physically stronger and more competitive so they can work to fight female sexual power and reproduce. Imagine if women had it all: physical strength, sexual power, risk taking? There would be no point to men at all.

So basically men think women are inferior just because they can't get laid. The only way you are really going to reconcile this issue OP is to act and live your life in spite of male bitterness and pathetic lust. We have it pretty good in this era and really you can choose to be and represent whatever you like, who cares what some other women do?

That's actually a very interesting read. Thanks very much, I never thought of it that way before.
What difference does it make if children see it or not? It's a topless model, who enjoys what she does. And tbh if a childs old enough to be reading a paper by their choice they're likely to be old enough to see a topless model. OP is boring and wrong.

I don't know any children who look at page 3 and by the time they are old enough to want to they've probably already seen other stuff. The way it's done also isn't overtly sexual, they're just standing there.

Also, so what if children see them? Breasts are a normal and important part of the female body, if a kid asks just tell them. At a young age they aren't extactly going to be attracted to it, to them it will just be another fact.
I think there are far bigger issues with the sun than someone having their tits out.

Unless you believe respect is a load of guys lusting for you, you're a nobody. Harsh, but true.

There is ocean of difference between the likes of Kim Kardashian and someone like Emma Watson.

Firstly. It is not up to YOU if it is degrading to them. It is up to THEM.

THEY do not find it degrading else they would not do it. Some people just love showing their bodies and getting paid for it.

Oh and btw, it isn't all one sided. Explain to me the multiple girl magazines that do 'abs of the week' and **** like that about men? It isn't all one-sided.

For arguments sake: It sells, the girls are happy to do it, why on earth should it be stopped?

One simple thing. Girls are degraded by stuff like this. Girls who just want to be who they are and not expected to wear such slutty things...

Because of this too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ei6JvK0W60I

One page that hardly any people read (they just flick past) affects people?
Not the hundreds of shows and TV articles (btw, which are mostly made by women) that people actually read and take notice of? Not the countless girl magazines cositently putting pictures of celebrities losing weight on the beach etc?. I bet you still read those don't you.

And again. It is not up to YOU if they are degraded. You aren't doing it. They obviously like doing it. No guy is ever going to look at it and be like 'oh look, she is almost naked, i will never be a nice guy ever and always be **** to women' are they.

And it goes both ways
(first example i could be assed to get)

I know it is their choice, but have you seen interviews of these types of girls? :/

As this was a topic about page 3 GIRLS I didn't bother to mention that.

I hate the lot of it. The way the media injects things into peoples heads. The way everything seems to evolve around sex now-a-days too.

And have you seen the program about kids and sex? The one were porn mags were at eye level to them? The underwear suitable for adults to wear too?

One random youtube video, thanks.
How about i post a link describing the problem with obesity in this country and say how (even with it's disadvantages, i'm not saying it's completely good) this pressure is stopping that obesity rise, even if by a tiny bit?.

Yes i have seen interviews. I've seen interviews of girls with degree's from Top 10's doing adult entertainment or page 3. Girls with very well paid other jobs (in banking etc). What's your point?

Often females in porn and prostitution are already marginalised in society and even though, yeah, we cry, about their choice, in reality, they're at the bottom of our list of people we would want to make known to the world we're associating with. It's a cycle, afflicted with violence, drugs and suicide.

Live and let live.

If people didn't buy the papers there would be no page 3? It's quite a simple principle, if a product fails to sell it will be withdrawn from production.

Take your femmy views elsewhere, you wouldn't acknowledge that there have been cases of well known male pornstars killing themselves, that's quite degrading.

I'm sorry I just don't see your point. It's not to do with production, obviously it's successful, but that doesn't mean it's right.

I'm not a feminist. I think if male porn was more widespread, and girls everywhere were comparing the size of your **** to what they saw in the photos, your viewpoint would be somewhat different

I do acknowledge this industry exploits men too, I think that's equally bad but obviously it's not on such a big scale.
OP stop oppressing women. Who are you to tell them to stop doing what they want to do?

Also, oh noes, a kid might see some boobs.
"I've crusaded against the Sun showing boobs. I've done my good deed. Now my son won't be harmed, even though he's watched about 9 bukkake videos today it took him 0.003474 seconds to find on Google."

I wish I could walk around with my wang out. Since I can't, I wouldn't mind it being on page 3.

Besides, OP you ever been to Japan? Read a Japanese newspaper (even a broadsheet), then have a look at the rape statistics in Japan and then tell me how dangerous a pair of boobs in a newspaper are.
