Different unis will have different recommended textbooks for their modules so I wouldn't want to say for definite what you need to buy and think you should probably wait for your reading lists. Some good general books that I've used are A Brief Introduction to Social Work Theory, Social Work Practice, Anti-Discriminatory Practice, and Social Work: Issues, Themes and Critical Debates. The stuff from the Learning Matters series is also good for a quick overview or a simplified version of many topics.

As above, Social work practice is great. I'd also recommend Pam Trevithick's Social work skills. It's practical and Pam writes really well, although there is a new edition coming out soon, so maybe wait for that!
